Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WS-8800 Aircraft Overhaul Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is ability to do the work of an AIRCRAFT MECHANIC SUPERVISOR without more than normal supervision.
JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Ability to accomplish work without more than normal supervision. Ability to make critical decisions responding to crises and weather changes required. Ability to maintain and perform in a fast paced high tempo environment under noisy and sometimes very warm conditions and to work and interact with others in a business like manner. The extremely high operations flying tempo requires the ability to supervise and manage a subordinate workforce in accomplishing timely launch and recovery operations. Demonstratec ability to lead, motivate, and instruct other in skill of the aircraft maintenance trade.
2. Knowledge of personnel management policies, practices, and procedures, including sexual harassment and Equal Employment Opportunity/Equal Employment Treatment. Ability to plan and organize work assignment to include determining resources required to accomplish mission. Knowledge and ability to performs flightline expediter and Production Supervisor duties.
3. Knowledge of aircraft parts, components, engines, and understanding of general aircraft mechanical systems and tools associated with T-1, T-6, T-38, or T-43 aircraft. One (1) year in at least three (3) years working on T-1, T-6, T-37, T-38, or T-43 aircraft highly desirable. Ability to read and interpret a variety of technical data, instructions, diagram, specifications, schematics, and technical orders related to T-1, T-6, T-37, T-38, or T-43 aircraft maintenance and repair.
4. Knowdge of Red X inspection procedure for assigned aircraft and the ability to evaluate work, which has placed aircraft in Red X status.
5. Ability to evaluate program trends, develop, and fully implement improvement plans. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing. Ability to effectively coordinate with lateral and subordinate organizations and contractors.
6. Knowledge and ability to evaluate and correct CAMS and forms documentations errors of personnel. ability to use computer terminals to maintain records and document actions.
7. Knowledge of tool, equipment programs, materials accounting/procurement and security procedures. Knowledge of safety requirements and environmental programs as outlined in applicable standards, regulations, tech orders and other guidelines.
Physical Effort:
Work assignments require moderate physical effort. May lift, carry, or otherwise handle items weighing up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds). Occasionally handles items greater than 18 kilograms. Assistance is usually available with heavy items. Work in a sitting position for extended periods. Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, and stooping are required. Occasionally, climbing and working in high places may be required.
Working Conditions:
Employee usually performs work outside, subject to prevailing weather conditions, extremes slippery or uneven surfaces. Exposed to the possibility of fire, explosion, electric shock, burns, bruises, cuts, grease, oil, dirt, and fuel. Working around machinery with moving parts. Working around moving objects or vehicles. Working on ladders or scaffolding. Required to wear all safety protection equipment, if required. An annual hearing test is also mandatory.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
