Duties
Indefinite Appointment/Temporary promotion not to exceed two (2) years. The purpose of the indefinite appointment/temporary promotion is to backfill a deployed Soldier. The indefinite appointment/temporary promotion will be terminated within 30 days of return of the incumbent to the position.
UNDERSTUDY AUTHORITY: The understudy will be appointed at the lower grade than the target position and will not assume full performance level duties or be promoted to the full target potential until the target position is vacated (not applicable if the understudy currently holds the same grade as the target position). The understudy period will not exceed 120 days.
JOB SUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to provide overall direction and coordination of subordinate work activities and functions which, because of their scope, volume and complexity are carried out by two or more organizational segments and layers, possibly during two or more shifts. Control and management of the work functions requires several subordinate supervisors. The occupation and non-supervisory grade level which best reflects the nature of the overall work operations supervised is Aircraft Mechanic, WG-8852-10.
NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Connecticut Army National Guard.
The major duties include, but are not limited to:
- Plans the overall allocation of personnel and other resources to the organizational segments supervised to accomplish work operations which, because of their scope, volume, and complexity, must be planned on a yearly or longer basis.
- Explains work requirements to subordinate levels of supervision, sets deadlines and sequence of operations.
- Recommends promotion or reassignment of subordinate supervisors and reviews personnel actions prepared by them.
- Implements regulatory safety requirements and ensures that subordinates wear appropriate safety equipment and follow pertinent safety precautions.
- Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside, in inclement weather, on icy, wet, and slippery ramps, aircraft surfaces and work stands and in temperature and humidity extremes. Subject to the dangers from exposure to toxic fumes, high pressure air and fluids; fast actuating metal aircraft surfaces such as landing gears, speed brakes, missile doors and flaps; engine noise, heat, blast, intake suction, rotating propellers; explosive munitions; electrical voltage; cartridge actuating devices; liquid oxygen; fire or explosion of aircraft fuels, lubricants, paints and solvents.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work involves climbing, stooping, standing, bending, stretching, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Requires moderate to strenuous physical exertion. Lifts equipment and components weighing from20 to 50 pounds and occasionally lifts weights up to 80 pounds such as generators, engine starters, and ejection seats with the assistance of weight handling equipment or other workers.
