Summary

THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.

This position is for an Aircraft Mechanic, Position Description Number D0483000 located in the Army Aviation Support Facility (AASF #2), in Marietta, GA.

This is a full-time, Excepted Temporary Indefinite, dual status position which requires Georgia Army National Guard Membership.

Duties

As an Aircraft Mechanic, WG-8852-10, you will:

Perform inspections, functional checks, and preventive maintenance on assigned aircraft to include pre-inspection, daily inspection, pre- and post-flight inspections and such special inspections as required, including fuel contamination checks, oil sampling, an inspection of onboard emergency equipment. Conduct checks on hydraulic, electrical, transmission, power systems, etc.

Troubleshoot, diagnose, and perform unscheduled maintenance on assigned and transient aircraft. Perform the full range of repair and testing of aircraft system, assemblies, and surfaces. Use a variety of methods involving test equipment, visual checks and instruments, diagnose and identify problem areas and determine the extent of repairs required. Remove components and assemblies, repair or replace defective parts and components and reassemble repaired items into the aircraft. Install, align, and make needed adjustments to major components and assemblies such as engines, propeller/rotors, transmissions, hydraulic systems, etc., assisting Specialists as required. Accomplish adjustments to related systems which may be affected by repairs. Conduct ground functional tests of all aircraft systems. Service aircraft with oil, de-icing fluid, fuel, and hydraulic fluid. Launch and recover assigned and transient aircraft; perform inspections prior to takeoff. Inspect for conditions such as oil, fuel, and hydraulic leak, cut lines, tires and loose panels.

May be required to perform such additional duties as fire fighting, aircraft crash/rescue, snow removal, etc.

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver’s license.
  • Preplacement Medical Requirements: Selectee will be required to undergo medical testing, at the expense of the government, prior to beginning employment. Medical tests are used to determine fitness and eligibility for employment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968.

Qualifications

Military Grades: SPC - SFC.

Compatible Military Assignments: ECMF: 15 Series B,D,F,G,H,N.P,R,T U.

General Experience: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment.

Specialized Experience: Candidate must have at least 18 months specialized experience installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container.

Working Conditions: Works inside and outside, in inclement weather, on icy, wet, and slippery ramps and work-stands in temperature and humidity extremes. Work areas may be drafty, noisy and have toxic fumes present. Irritants such as aircraft fluids, dirt, grease, dust, paint and solvents may be present. Exposure to cuts, burns, electrical shock, strains, and broken toes exists.

Physical Effort: Required to climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch, and work in tiring an uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts parts and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds. Occasionally lifts and carries times weighing 50 pounds and over.
