Summary

This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are part of the regular career civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. In addition, ARTs are required to maintain their active membership in the AF Reserve unit where assigned. ARTs receive on average one weekend of military training per month.

Duties

The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) to test, troubleshoot, repair and modify aircraft fuel distribution systems, repair leaks of external/integrated tanks, and provide training to reservists in the accomplishment of tasks set forth therein.

DUTY 1: Receives work document(s) or oral instructions regarding problem with aircraft fuel system.
DUTY 2: Troubleshoots Integral fuel tanks, using leak path analysis and other test procedures such as pressure checks, vacuum checks, dye injection checks, helium and argon gas checks, etc., to determine the source or fuel leaks.
DUTY 3: Troubleshoots fuel cells to determine location of leaks. Accomplishes modifications and prepares components for storage or shipment.
DUTY 4: In performing duties uses a variety of common hand tools, combustible and toxic gas indicators, torque wrenches, leak detectors, pressure gauges, manometers, powered tools such as drills and pneumatic wrenches; also, operates AGE such as blowers, filters, vacuum cleaners, heaters, air conditioners, fire extinguishers, etc.
DUTY 5: Prepares effective training plans to maximize Reserve training. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work area.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C for WG-8200 FLUID SYSTEMS MAINTENANCE FAMILY.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8200 FLUID SYSTEMS MAINTENANCE FAMILY. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The screen out element for this position is the ability to perform the work of an AIRCRAFT PNEUDRAULIC SYSTEMS MECHANIC with little to no supervision.

JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Skill in the use of standard hand and power tools of the trade. Ability to read and interpret a variety of technical data. Ability to install aircraft pneudraulic systems, equipment or accessories.
2. Comprehensive knowledge of operation, capabilities and limitations of aircraft pneudraulic systems.
3. Ability to use a variety of test and measurement equipment. Ability to test complete pneudraulic systems. Ability to overhaul, repair or fabricate aircraft pneudraulic equipment. Ability to calibrate aircraft pneudraulic equipment. Ability to troubleshoot aircraft pneudraulic equipment of moderate complexity.
4. Knowledge of safety and security requirements as outlined in applicable standards, regulations and technical orders.
5. Knowledge of tool, equipment, and materials accounting and security. Knowledge of USAF Technical Order Program and its procedures.
6. Ability to clean work area and/or job site upon completion of work.

OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS: Other significant facts pertaining to this position are: Performs other related duties as assigned. May be required to fly in commercial and military aircraft to perform temporary/permanent duty assignments.

This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Work schedule will be aligned to allow incumbent to fully participate in unit training assemblies (UTA). The incumbent's regular assignments are ART duties; however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.

May be required to work overtime, rotating shifts, uncommon tours, weekends, etc.

This is a testing designated position (TDP). The employee is subject to random drug testing.

Near vision correctable at 13 inches to 16 inches to Jaeger 1 to 4. Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other. Both eyes required. Depth perception. Ability to distinguish basic colors. Hearing (without aid). Must be free from claustrophobia.

This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are eligible for 15 days active duty tour each year for which military leave is granted with full civilian pay. Air Reserve units and members; are subject to immediate call to active duty in mobilization to meet a national emergency.
