Duties

SUMMARY OF DUTIES: The purpose of this position is to perform on- and/or off-equipment maintenance on assigned aircraft pneudraulic systems, components and related aerospace ground equipment.

  • Performs maintenance and operational and functional checks on assigned pneudraulic systems.
  • Performs installation, modification, and/or repair of aircraft pneudraulic systems.
  • Performs organizational and field level maintenance to include periodic, phase time, calendar, unscheduled, and special inspection.
  • Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations such as ORI, IG and UE inspections, mobility, and command support exercises.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.

  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates your knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical principles; knowledge of troubleshooting procedures used to isolate malfunctions in aircraft pneudraulic systems; and ability to use technical manuals, equipment specifications, and test calibration procedures in performing the work.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 18 months of experience or training which provided a knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical principles. Experience in fabricating fuel, oil and vacuum hose lines. Experience in servicing, maintaining, disassembling assembling, repairing and testing hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Experience in diagnosing malfunctions and overhauling pneudraulic accessories by disassembling, cleaning part and examining parts. Experience in diagnosing trouble and determining remedies. Experience in repairing, rebuilding and overhauling major systems of ground equipment and pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Experience in mechanical repairs using hand tools and test equipment. Experience that demonstrates the ability to interpret technical manuals, specifications and publications.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Required to sit, stand, stoop, bend, stretch and work in cramped, tiring, uncomfortable positions. Subject to high intensity and higher frequency sounds that impose a physical burden. May be required to lift and/or push heavy equipment and components weighing from 20 to 50 pounds and occasionally up to approximately 100 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside, in inclement weather; on icy, wet, and slippery ramps; aircraft surfaces and work stands; and in temperature and humidity extremes. Subject to dangers from exposure to toxic fumes, high pressure air and fluids, fast actuating metal aircraft surfaces; such as landing gears, speed brakes, missile doors and flaps, engine noise, heat blast, intake suction; rotating propellers; explosive munitions; electrical voltage cartridge actuating devices; liquid oxygen, fire or explosion of aircraft fuels, lubricants, paints, and solvents. Requires moderate to strenuous physical exertion when climbing, stooping, standing, bending, stretching, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions.

MILITARY TECHNICIAN COMPATIBILITY POSITION: Prior to placement in this position, the selected applicant must be assigned to an appropriate military position and must meet the definition of a dual status technician in accordance with 32 U S C 709.

Other Requirements: For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have
a valid state driver's license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.

NOTES TO CANDIDATES:
a. Situations of inversion of military rank are not permitted, i.e., a military technician may not be militarily senior to his or her full-time supervisor.

b. Authorization for payment of PCS expenses may be granted only after determination is made that payment is in the best interest of the Hawaii National Guard.
