This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT PNEUDRAULICS SYSTEMS MECHANIC SUPERVISOR (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D0802000 and is part of the IL 126, National Guard.

About the Position: This is an open continuous announcement. Initial pull will be 18 September 2025. Recruitment will continue through the announcement closing date until the position is filled.

Duties

As a AIRCRAFT PNEUDRAULICS SYSTEMS MECHANIC SUPERVISOR (TITLE 32), WS-8268-9, you will supervise workers on a day-to-day or project-by-project basis, either directly or through one or more subordinate leaders, in accomplishing the work operations of the organizational segment or work shift and to perform associated nonsupervisory work.

Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list:

  • Plan and schedule specific work assignments on a daily or project-by-project basis within specified time requirements.
  • Explain prescribed methods and procedures; instruct subordinates on new procedures and provide assistance on problems.
  • Review work in progress and on completion.
  • Implement safety regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare for and participate in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises.
  • May be required to perform additional duties such as structural fire fighting, aircraft fire/crash/rescue duty, security guard, snow removal, munitions loading and handling, heavy equipment operator, maintenance of facilities and equipment, or serve as a member of a team to cope with natural disasters or civil emergencies.
  • Assign tasks to be performed.
  • Suggest ways or methods to improve operations or reduce costs.
  • Obtain approval from supervisor for changes in standard or prescribed procedures and changes in work operations.

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in the Illinois National Guard and in the military grade listed in the announcement.   • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.

  • May be required to successfully complete a supervisor probationary period.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.

Qualifications

AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of considerations for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code § 709), will be in the following manner and sequence,

  • The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG.
  • The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees.
  • The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible.
  • The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership.
  • The FIFTH area of consideration will U.S. Citizens.

Military Grades: Enlisted - Minimum Rank of E6 - Maximum Rank of E7

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: MUST possess experience or training which demonstrates your knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical principles; knowledge of troubleshooting procedures used to isolate malfunctions in aircraft pneudraulic systems; and ability to use technical manuals, equipment specifications, and test calibration procedures in performing the work.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WS-9 Level in addition to the journeyman level knowledge, MUST possess experience demonstrating the ability to plan, organize, and lead the work of others in fields directly related to the repair function of this occupational series; ability to perform administrative functions; to read and interpret a variety of technical publications used in the repair of supported equipment; ability to guide others in work related directly to this occupational series.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: MUST possess, in addition to the journeyman level knowledge, experience demonstrating the ability to plan, direct, and organize work assignments of lower grade personnel; experience which required the review of work requirements and establishing priorities to meet deadlines; experience that provided knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function; experience which demonstrates the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes; experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations.
