This a Temporary WG-8810-10 AIRCRAFT PROPELLER MECHANIC (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D2773000 and is part of the MO TASMG Shop.

Duties

  • Tests and troubleshoots aircraft rotor and/or propeller systems using special tools and test equipment.
  • Diagnoses any malfunctions of rotor/propeller systems and makes necessary repairs.
  • Repairs and refinishes blades/propellers using a variety of metal working tools and precision measuring instruments.
  • Performs troubleshooting of the powertrain systems using special tools and test equipment, diagnoses any system malfunctions and makes necessary repairs.
  • Guides lower-level mechanics in performance of tasks.
  • Conducts on-the- job training on assigned systems and related support equipment and tasks to include classroom instruction as necessary.
  • Subjects rotor, propeller, and powertrain parts to a variety of nondestructive testing to identify imperfections not otherwise detected.
  • Operates magnetic, dye, or electronic equipment to identify or detect stress, cracks, or potential failures.
  • Refers findings to inspector for determination of serviceability.
  • Performs Depot modifications, related to aircraft propeller systems, on assigned aircraft and associated equipment.
  • Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations.
  • Processes and accounts for due-in supply assets.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Acceptance of an Excepted Service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Failure to complete management prescribed courses for full-time support personnel within the first year of employment or assignment, may be cause for reassignment or termination.
  • This is an Excepted Service position that requires membership in the Missouri National Guard prior to the effective date of placement.

  • Placement or baseline physical are required for newly hired or appointed Wage Grade personnel who may be potentially exposed to health hazards in the work environment.
  • Advanced in hire rate may be granted to set pay above the minimum rate of the grade for a new employee if he/she possesses superior qualifications relevant to the positions' requirements and is essential to accomplish the agency's mission.
  • Creditable Service for Annual Leave accrual may be granted to new employees if he/she possesses superior qualifications essential to the position; and which were acquired through performance in a non-federal or active duty uniformed service position.
  • The duties performed in a non-federal or active duty uniformed service position must directly relate to the position to which appointed and such qualifications are necessary to achieve an important agency mission or performance goal to be eligible.
  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
  • Temporary appointments are subject to termination at any time.
  • This position can be filled up to four years as long as funds are available to support it.
  • In the event a permanent (Tenure 1 or 2) or indefinite (Tenure 3) employee is selected, and is willing to accept the temporary appointment, that employee will relinquish permanent or indefinite status.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
  • Ability to establish effective professional working relationships with coworkers and customers, contributing to a cooperative working environment and successful accomplishment of the mission.
  • Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.

Qualifications

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: Selected candidate must currently be assigned to a military unit in the Missouri Army National Guard. Title 32 employees will not be militarily senior to their full-time supervisor (grade inversion).

Maximum Military Grade - WO1 (W-1) with date of rank after 10 July 2024

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must possess experience or training that has provided you with the ability to perform assembly and disassembly operations and make prescribed modifications to aircraft propeller assemblies and their components in accordance with technical specifications, procedures and requirements; and experience using hand and power tools common to the trade.

WG-10 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must possess specialized experience that provided experience or training performing standard, routine assembly and disassembly operations and making prescribed modifications to aircraft propellers, assemblies, and accessories; ability to perform maintenance overhaul, troubleshooting, testing, and repair of aircraft propellers, components, for rotary wing aircraft; and experience determining maintenance needed from work orders, inspection reports, historical record, and by own diagnosis.

Additional Conditions of Employment:

  • May be required to travel by car, in military and/or commercial aircraft, and by other means of transportation as appropriate, to perform temporary duty assignments.
  • This is a Testing Designated Position TDP. The employee is subject to random drug testing. Pre-employment drug testing and participation in random drug testing is a condition of employment. Note: The caveat is that the states, territories, and the district cannot drug test until a drug free workplace policy has been established and approved by the United States Department of Health and Human Services.

Education

This job does not have a qualification requirement that allows substitution of education for specialized experience.
