Duties

Major Duties: This is not an all-inclusive list

As a AIRCRAFT SURVIVAL FLIGHT EQUIPMENT SPECIALIST (TITLE 32) (Part Time), GS-1601-9/11, you will:

  • Exercises overall functional and management responsibility for the Wing Aircrew Life Support (ALS) program. This includes managing, planning, organizing, controlling, and directing all activities of the function.
  • Provides expert technical advice to the Operations and Wing Commander concerning all Life Support function issues affecting the Wing.
  • Serves as the Wing focal point for all ALS matters dealing with higher headquarters.
  • Integrates the ALS program into the flying operations of the Wing.
  • As technical advisor, makes recommendations as appropriate to enhance the Life Support maintenance mission.
  • Supervises the Life Support function either directly or through a Small Shop Chief.
  • Plans, coordinates, and directs the activities of subordinate and augmented personnel. These individuals may be on various types of employment status such as Air Technician, Active Guard Reserve, Special Training, or on other approved work-day orders.
  • Performs personnel supervisory functions including preparing travel orders, participating in interviews and selection of employees, approving leave, ensuring indoctrination of new employees, providing training, evaluating performance, initiating action to review the classification of positions within the organization, and resolving disciplinary problems.
  • Identifies development and sustainment needs and coordinates facility requirements which support aircrew life-saving, rescue and recovery, and secure-communications equipment.
  • Performs material, fiscal, and facility resource management responsibilities.
  • Serves as the unit Resource Advisor (RA). Is the primary point of contact for the Responsibility Center Manager (RCM) for all resource management matters affecting life support activities.
  • Reviews all operational cost models and develops and manages budgetary programs.
  • Provides oversight of the formal academic instruction, and serves as an academic instructor for unit aircrew members, Department of Defense personnel, foreign nationals, dignitaries, civilian aircrew and search-rescue agencies.
  • Ensures that initial and recurring training events provided include theory of operation and are student centered and performance based.
  • Provides oversight in the planning, organizing, and conducting of training activities using USAF certified platform training techniques.
  • Oversees or prepares post-training evaluations and provides certification in accordance with aircrew training currency tables.
  • Conducts administrative compliance inspections and takes positive action to eliminate unserviceable life saving equipment.
  • Reviews, develops, and issues written instructions to clarify Air Force, MAJCOM, NGB guidance, and develops special instructions for
    non-routine assignments.
  • Ensures all aircrew life support, survival and rescue-recovery equipment meets strict airworthiness standards through oversight of a program that involves extensive diagnostic testing and evaluation, inspection, calibration, troubleshooting, repairing/replacing, assembly disassembly, and strict adherence to certification procedures.
  • Oversees and performs pre-mission equipment certifications and conducts mission termination inspections. Ensures aircrew equipment is properly pre-positioned and configured to support mission requirements.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS:
Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership. Compatible Military Assignments: 1P0 AFSC required

  • National Guard Membership is required.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Pending analysis, you may be required to complete a new 1-year probationary period when moved to this position IAW CNGBI 1400.25
  • For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Medical screening will be completed upon selection for hire.
  • Soldiers who accept a technician position may be terminated from the Bonus and Student Loan Repayment Program (SLRP).
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position.
  • For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
Experience which has provided you with a knowledge of equipment maintenance work, or skill in reading engineering drawings and specifications, using test instruments, making computations, and keeping records. Experience using computer and automation systems .

Specialized Experience GS 09:
1-year specialized experience equivalent to GS-1601-07 (Must provide SF 50 to validate response)
OR
Experience applying principles, concepts, and methods of equipment, facility, or service operations sufficient in designing projects or planning assignments. Experience using well-established occupational methods and techniques to determine facility, grounds, equipment overhaul, maintenance, restoration, repair needs, etc.

Specialized Experience GS 11:
1-year specialized experience equivalent to GS-1601-09 (Must provide SF 50 to validate response)
OR
Experience applying principles, concepts, and methods of equipment, facility, or service operations sufficient in planning assignments. Experience using well-established occupational methods and techniques to determine facility, grounds, equipment overhaul, maintenance, restoration, repair needs, etc. Experience in determination of resource needs, allocation of resources, and budgeting/funding needs. Experience in human resources management policy matters affecting the entire organization, with personnel actions affecting key employees to include experience coordinating work forces and resources and negotiating with management or clients concerning problems.
