Duties
(1) Maintains and makes complete check-out of the total aircraft and troubleshoots all systems. This includes monitoring and performing periodic, hourly and special inspections and defueling and servicing operations. Conducts ground functional tests of all aircraft systems, including turbine and piston engines and rigs and adjusts flight controls, fuel controls and related engine components prior to and during flight tests. Is authorized to start and run-up rotary wing and/or fixed wing aircraft to perform operational tests using live aircraft engine power as authorized and required. Accompanies pilot during flight to locate discrepancies that are not evident during ground operation. Certifies that inspection, maintenance and repairs have been accomplished within prescribed parameters. Diagnoses written and verbal pilot comments regarding deficiencies in aircraft performance. Operationally checks, troubleshoots and repairs aircraft system(s) and associated mechanisms by connecting, adjusting and operating test equipment. Documents deficiencies, malfunctions and repairs required to return the aircraft to serviceable condition. Accomplishes repairs and modifications or refers for maintenance action to appropriate specialists (e.g. avionics, sheet metal, etc.) together with documentation. Performs authorized major modifications within assigned functional area as directed by higher technician authority.
(2) Performs such duties as aircraft loading, passenger briefings, sling load and hoisting operations, observer duties, litter installation, clearance of aircraft into and out of confined areas and pinnacle operations, operation of applicable flight control panels and emergency procedures as necessary. Performs required pre-flight, in-flight and past-flight inspections and related maintenance actions required to preserve the operational status of the aircraft.
(3) Inspects aircraft and components. Inspections include, but are not limited to: Initial, In-process, Visual, Condition and Final Inspections; Maintenance Operational Checks; and Accident Damage Inspections.
(4) Certifies by signature that services and repairs accomplished adhere to quality standards established by applicable publications.
(5} Reviews and checks aircraft forms and records for accuracy and completeness. Determines maintenance requirements, inspection requirements and compliance with technical standards. Verifies that entries on existing forms are accurate and reflect actual aircraft and component serial numbers and operating hours. Verifies that entri es required to be transcribed to new forms are carried forward and entered accurately. Resolves discrepancies between recorded and actual status by research with other data-storing agencies or by physical inspection. Corrects and certifies changes entered for record.
(6) Provides technical assistance and expertise on aircraft maintenance and quality control matters to AAOF maintenance and supported units. Must be able to perform the duties of aircraft maintenance positions supporting assigned aircraft. Participates in inspection, technical assistance, maintenance assistance and instruction of unit and AAOF personnel. Advises aircraft maintenance personnel on proper maintenance practices, procedures and techniques. Reviews new and interprets existing technical publications applicable to inspection, modification and maintenance of aircraft and equipment. Resolves technical problems encountered. Prepares reports of findings and makes recomnendations on implementing quality control programs.
(7) Performs fire/crash rescue duties on an as needed basis.
(8) Performs other duties as assigned.
