ALLIED TRADES WORKER T32

This position is located at Combined Surface Maintenance Shop (CSMS) in Phoenix, Arizona. The primary purpose of this position is to assist higher graded workers in performing work in the skilled trades' occupations in support of maintenance functions. Engages in joint operations with higher graded workers. Rotates through trades areas to gain experience.

THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.

Conditions of employment

• ARIZONA ARMY NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. Prior to appointment into this position, selectee must be a current member of the Arizona Army National Guard, in a military organization supported by the CSMS.
• This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
• Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
• Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
• Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
• Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
• Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
• May be required to successfully complete a trial period.
• Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
• Incumbent must possess and maintain a current unrestricted, excluding glasses, state and military driver’s license.
• Irregular (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.
• Must possess and maintain access to the Arizona Army National Guard computer network (NIPR) and required systems. This position requires constant domain access.
• Incumbent must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance. Note: Applicants in the grades of E-8, and E-9 must possess at least a Secret Security Clearance

Enlisted: PV2/E-2 to SGM/CSM/E-9
Warrant Officer Candidate: WOC

Compatible Military Assignments: Must possess or be able to obtain

Enlisted: 12, 88, 91, 92, or 94 Series
Warrant Officer Candidate: 09W

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:

Must possess at least 12 months experience or training using common hand and power tools and a small variety of test and measurement devices to make mechanical repairs. Experience removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing a variety of parts, components, and accessories. Experience which demonstrates a basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory applying to vehicles; and skill to replace, fit, install, and make adjustments. Experience demonstrating an understanding of the makeup and operation of the various individual systems maintained and their interrelationships. Experience reading and interpreting parts lists, manufactures' repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics.

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the following competencies (knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics):

1. Skill in setting up various electric resistant welding machines or to use one or more manual welding processes. Assures proper spacing pressure and heat cycle. Controls the torch or arc. Demonstrate the knowledge of different welding processes required for different materials such as ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

2. Skill in using and setting up machinist equipment to perform less complicated tasks.

3. Knowledge of metals used and how various parts are bolted, soldered, riveted, or welded. Ability to use the tools of the trade and return metal to the original contour with minimum stretch or added dents.

4. Knowledge of how to prepare surfaces for painting and apply coating so that will adhere to the surface and be free from skips, runs, and drips.

5. Ability to interpret drawings and blueprints. Determines amount of material needed. Makes major repairs in fabric and operates industrial type sewing machines. Knowledge and skill to use plastic bead welders and to vulcanize plastic or synthetic materials.
