This National Guard position is for a ARTILLERY REPAIRER (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D1224000 and is part of the IL CSMS 1, National Guard.

About the Position: This is an open continuous announcement. Recruitment will continue through the announcement closing date until the position is filled.
Duties
As an ARTILLERY REPAIRER (TITLE 32), WG-6605-5/8/10, you will perform maintenance, repair, and inspections on the electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical components on armored vehicle turrets.
Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list:
- Perform maintenance on the electrical system of the turrets.
- Test and repair electrical test sets that are used to test the electrical systems of the tank turret.
- Follow schematic diagrams and relays to determine if there is malfunction in the test equipment.
- Replace Line Replaceable Units (LRUs).
- Work on ITVs.
- Work on howitzers.
- Service the gun by exercising the recoil system to check for leaks in the seals.
- Borescope the gun tube to check for wear.
- Make recoil adapter readings to determine that the adapter and collar are serviceable.
- Repair the stabilization control systems, circuit breakers, distribution boxes, cables, and wiring system, points and all other electrical components in the turret.
- Repair the hydraulic system, which provides the pressure to elevate and traverse the gun and rotate the turret.
- Repair all mechanical parts involved in turret traversing, such as the traversing gearbox including the clutch assembly, and turret races including cupola bearings.

- This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.

Qualifications
AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of considerations for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code § 709), will be in the following manner and sequence,
- The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG.
- The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees.
- The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible.
- The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership.
- The FIFTH area of consideration will U.S. Citizens.
Military Grades: Enlisted/Warrant Officer - Not to exceed WO1
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: MUST possess experience or training which demonstrates the ability to perform mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic system operations; experience demonstrating the ability to fit and adjust parts and assemblies.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WG-10 Level MUST possess at least 18 months experience or training demonstrating a broad knowledge in repairing, rebuilding, modifying and testing mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems and major components of artillery systems; experience in diagnosing malfunctions and determining needed repairs in artillery systems; experience demonstrating the ability to inspect artillery systems; experience which demonstrates the ability to develop test standards; and experience interpreting and applying drawings, schematics, blueprints, diagrams and specifications. WG-08 Level MUST possess at least 12 months experience or training in dismantling, cleaning and reassembling various artillery subassemblies; experience which has demonstrated the ability to diagnose malfunctions by recognizing worn or damaged parts by measurement, strength of springs or dimension of parts; experience using hand tools, a limited number of measuring instruments, and a variety of test equipment; and experience which demonstrated the ability to interpret and apply a variety of technical manuals and similar published materials. WG-05 Level MUST possess at least 6 months experience or training which demonstrates the ability to perform simple servicing and adjustments to armament equipment; experience which has demonstrated the ability to identify easy to locate troubles by sight, hearing or by use of simple gauges and indicators; experience which required the use of common hand tools; and experience which has demonstrated the ability to follow written instructions.
