Duties

MAJOR DUTIES:  

Responsible for supervising and managing all phases to include the economic and efficient operations of full-service automotive skills development center and the recreational vehicle storage. Responsible to provide qualified instruction, technical advice, supervision, equipment, tools and machinery for patrons engaged in performing both minor and major maintenance of personal vehicles. Ensures patrons are instructed in the safe and efficient operation of all equipment and associated tools. Plans, organizes work and manages internal resources to ensure maximum productivity and efficiencies. Inventories and displays resale merchandise. Responsible for the operation and accountability of change fund and all daily receipts. Reviews financial status of activity and recommends changes when necessary. Supervises activity employees. Trains, schedules work, appraise performance, counsels personnel and recommend personnel actions as appropriate. Responsible for employee selection.  Ensures management of Hazardous Waste (HW) is in accordance with current regulations along with all safety procedures and processes. Ensures established safety procedures concerning handling of HW are followed. Ensures required training for HW handlers is conducted. Ensures that training records and other required reports are maintained, overall efficiency of the operation and the highest standards of quality and service are maintained. Conducts safety inspections and takes immediate corrective action whenever work safety is compromised. Inspects all fire extinguishers and initials tags, grinders, parts washers, eyewashes, showers, and electrical equipment. Responsible for the proper identification, containing, labeling, storage and disposal of a variety of hazardous substances. Ensures substances are properly handled and disposed of in accordance with applicable Federal, State and local regulations. Inspects storage facility for leaks, faulty, unsafe and non-compatible storage, damaged containers and other potential waste storage problems and takes immediate corrective action. Ensures SDS are on file for all hazardous materials and available to all employees for their information. Attend monthly Environmental Compliance Coordinator (ECC) meetings. Assist other sites and facilities with hazardous waste as needed. Provides appropriate guidance in cases of accidental spills or potential chemical injury. Maintains statistical analysis for air quality inventories. Maintains all records and makes distribution to required parties. Ensures compliance with fire, safety and sanitation regulations. Manages property resources. Prepares budgets, long-range plans, inventory controls, cost controls and related records and reports. Reviews the financial status of the assigned activity and recommends changes as considered necessary. Implements higher level directives, formulates procedure and programs to ensure high standards of recreational and promotional efforts. Carries out necessary liaison with other staff officials that support automotive skills center activities, events, purchase of equipment, etc. Responsible for acting on internal and patron problems with minimal adverse impact on functional programs. Utilize point of sale system and reporting for scheduling, sales, and transaction. Networks and provides resources with vendors in the industry. Trains, schedules work, appraises performance, counsels assigned personnel, and recommends personnel actions. Approves/disapproves leave requests and completes performance evaluations. Verifies daily attendance and time cards. Prepares work schedules. Ensures that security, safety, and housekeeping rules are followed. Provides on-the-job training, instruction and guidance to employees.

EVALUATIONS:

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Three years experience that demonstrates knowledge of automotive mechanics, automotive troubleshooting or auto body repair and welding and safety procedures to be able to instruct participants in the program being administered. Hazardous waste material and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) experience preferred. Must have the ability to maintain financial records and budget. Knowledge of retail business practices. Knowledge of the methods for promoting programs and responsible administrative, professional and technical work requiring knowledge of operating an automotive skills development center. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing. Experience, which demonstrates knowledge of general mechanical experience, mechanical management, trades work and oversight of an automotive skills development center. Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification preferred or educational training equivalent. Incumbent must have ability to supervise, deal effectively with subordinates, management officials and patrons. Must have point of sale, records management and inventory experience. This is a mixed position where the incumbent must be able to lift and carry objects up to 45lbs independently and objects over 45lbs with assistance.
