To be eligible for consideration, you must first meet the Basic Education Requirement for this position, having:
A. Degree: accounting; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law.

B. Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge. The applicant's background must also include one of the following:
1. Twenty-four semester hours in accounting or auditing courses of appropriate type and quality. This can include up to 6 hours of business law
2. A certificate as Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor, obtained through written examination. (Must include valid certification).
In order to be rated as qualified for this position, the HR Office must be able to determine that you meet the education and specialized experience requirement - this information must be clearly supported in the resume.
To qualify at the GS-11:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to at least the GS-09 level in Federal service or its non-Federal equivalent having demonstrated experience in at least two of the following three areas: 1) working with administrative support or small business accounting systems, (payroll, purchases, sales); 2) performing data trend analysis; or 3) recognizing and adjusting differences between the general ledger and subsidiary accounts.

Education: You could otherwise qualify on the basis of Education having 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, in a related field.

Combination: Combination of specialized experience and graduate education.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
