Qualifications
You may qualify at the GS-07, if you fulfill the following qualifications:
A. One year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in Federal Service.
- Assisting in actuarial analyses.
- Assisting in actuarial computations.
- Assisting in research and studies on calculation of actuarial present values.
You may qualify at the GS-09, if you fulfill the following qualifications:
A. One year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in Federal Service.
- Performing actuarial analyses.
- Performing actuarial computations.
- Preparing research and studies on calculation of actuarial present values.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
In addition to meeting qualifications, your application package must reflect the applicable experience to meet the Individual Occupational Requirements for the 1510 series.
GS-07: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
- Eligibility under the superior academic achievement provision and a bachelor's degree that included courses in actuarial science, mathematics, relevant statistics, business, finance, economics, insurance, or computer science totaling at least 24 semester hours. This course work must have included a minimum of 12 semester hours of mathematics that included differential and integral calculus and one or more courses in mathematics for which these calculus courses were prerequisites.
OR
- One year of graduate education in the subject areas of actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, business, finance, economics, insurance, or computer science; AND a course of educational study as described in paragraph (A) (1) ( a) above.
OR
A combination of education and experience that includes both of the following requirements:
- One year of actuarial experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level; and
- Completion of a minimum of 24 semester hours of courses in actuarial science, mathematics, relevant statistics, business, finance, economics, insurance, or computer science at a four year college or university equivalent to a course of study described in paragraph (A) (1). This course work must have included a minimum of 12 semester hours of mathematics that included differential and integral calculus and one or more courses in mathematics for which these calculus courses were prerequisites.
OR
GS-07 Special Alternate Means of Qualifying: Successful completion of one (1) of the examinations offered by the Society of Actuaries (SOA), or the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS), or credit for one of the Joint Board for the Enrollment of Actuaries (JBEA) examinations, as evidenced by an official SOA or CAS transcript. Applicants must complete a minimum of 24 semester hours of courses in actuarial science, mathematics, relevant statistics, business, finance, economics, insurance, or computer science at a four year college or university. This course work must have included a minimum of 12 semester hours of mathematics that included differential and integral calculus and one or more courses in mathematics for which these calculus courses were prerequisites.
GS-09: Applicants may qualify for this grade level by meeting one of the following requirements:
- A master's degree or equivalent graduate degree, or 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree in actuarial science; mathematics, statistics, business, finance, economics, insurance, or computer science; AND a course of educational study as described in paragraph (A) (1) (a) above.
OR
A combination of education and experience that includes both of the following requirements:
- One year of actuarial experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level
- A course of educational study as described in paragraph (A) (1) above
OR

Education
You MUST provide transcripts or other documentation to support your educational claims. Unless otherwise stated: (1) unofficial transcripts are acceptable at time of application, or (2) If you are serviced by the office filling this position and your transcripts are on file in your official personnel folder, you are not required to submit. However, it is your responsibility to ensure transcripts are on file.

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours that your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.

2. Transcripts
- College transcript(s), required if qualifying based on education. We accept unofficial transcripts, as long as they contain your name, the name of the school, the date and degree that was awarded, and the lists of classes and credits earned.

SF50
- All current and former civilian Federal employees must submit a copy of your MOST RECENT SF50 (Notification of Personnel Action) showing your tenure, grade and step, salary, and type of position occupied (i.e., Excepted or Competitive); or similar Notification of Personnel Action documentation, i.e., Transcript of Service, Form 1150, etc. This is also a requirement to verify your Time in Grade (TIG).
4. Veteran's Documents:
