Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level.
To qualify at the GS-06 level, your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to at least the GS-05 level in the federal service. Examples of qualifying experience include the following types of tasks performed on a regular and recurring basis:
- Using Microsoft Office suite and other software programs to support and and assist in administrative activities to include drafting, reviewing, and editing documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.; and
- Providing customer service in person, by phone and in writing.
To qualify at the GS-07 level, your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to at least the GS-06 level in the federal service. Examples of qualifying experience include the following types of tasks performed on a regular and recurring basis:
- Performing administrative support duties to include timekeeping, travel arrangements, or personnel actions;
- Updating and maintaining an automated records management system;
- Processing timesheets using an automated system; and
- Providing customer service in person, by phone and in writing.
To qualify at the GS-08 level, your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to at least the GS-07 level in the federal service. Examples of qualifying experience include the following types of tasks performed on a regular and recurring basis:
- Identifying and resolving issues related to routine administrative correspondence, data reporting, and records.
- Providing, interpreting and researching administrative guidance in the application of organizational policies, regulations, standards, and procedures;
- Updating and maintaining an automated records management system;
- Processing timesheets and reviewing discrepancies using an automated system; and
- Providing customer service in person, by phone and in writing.
