Duties
This position is located within the Department of the Interior, National Park Service, Alaska Region, Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve, Copper Center, Alaska.
At the full performance level (GS-07) the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
- Manage correspondence, reports, and records, ensuring accuracy, organization, and compliance with federal standards.
- Perform payroll and timekeeping functions using automated systems, ensuring accurate and timely submission.
- Compose and prepare a variety of correspondence and documents, ensuring correct format, tone, and grammar.
- Receive, review, and process procurement and supply requests; monitor and replenish stock items.
- Provide general administrative assistance to supervisors and staff, anticipating needs and assembling documentation for park operations.
- Monitor budget and financial management including invoice for travel and voucher payment verifications.
Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.

As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 2-year trial period during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated.
This trial period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service. In determining if your employment advances the public interest, the agency will consider:
- your performance and conduct;
- the needs and interests of the agency;
- whether your continued employment would advance organizational goals of the agency or the Government; and
- whether your continued employment would advance the efficiency of the Federal service.
Under applicable law, the employment of an individual serving a probationary or trial period automatically terminates when that period ends unless the agency affirmatively certifies, in writing, that the individual's employment should continue and that their appointment should be finalized. In the absence of agency action to affirmatively certify continued employment beyond the probationary or trial period, such appointments are terminated.
Upon completion of your trial your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest.

Pay will vary based on grade level for which you're selected. First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the step 1 rate. Please see below the pay rates for each grade level:
GS-05 steps 1 to 10: $46,060 - $59,878
GS-06 steps 1 to 10: $51,344 - $66,747
GS-07 steps 1 to 10: $57,055 - $74,173
This is an excepted service appointment, that confers competitive status after two years and upon meeting all performance and OPM qualification requirements.

Physical Demands/Work Environment: The work is mostly sedentary for long period of time, and requires some walking, crouching, and light lifting.
The work is typically conducted within an office environment.
