As an ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT TECHNICIAN (Title 32), GS-0303-8, you will serve as the full-time unit administrator, ensuring continuity of operations for the band by administering the day-to-day operations. This includes processing actions in all areas of unit operations (operations, training, quality control, personnel, supply, facilities, contracting, medical, recruitment and retention, maintenance, equipment modernization, secure information, and computer hardware and software). You will plan, coordinate, and execute projects and activities on behalf of the commander ensuring the unit maintains compliance with band related regulations, directives, and policies (national and local).
Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list:
- Carries out unit level Air Force Band directed programs and activities; conducts technical studies; and reviews and coordinates projects and activities on behalf of the band.
- Regularly contacts functional managers within the US Air Force (USAF), US Army (USA), and reserve components for the purpose of gathering information, providing band support, coordinating events, and deployments.
- Assists the band commander with analysis, preparation and execution of unit training plans and programs.
- Assembles and identifies requirements for equipment, personnel, facilities, and funds critical to mission accomplishment.
- Submits documentation to appropriate offices to ensure sufficient resources are available for operations and training requirements.
- Serves as fulltime unit liaison with host base organizations for assigned unit real property to include buildings, sections of buildings, storage areas, grounds, fixtures and utilities.
- Establishes and maintains records and controls regarding the storage, safeguarding, issue, and inspection of assigned equipment.
- Assists the unit commander (a traditional guardsman) in formulating short term, long range and strategic plans for the band.
- Conducts annual reviews and validates all band regulations, plans, and letters of agreement to ensure consistency.
- Responds to inspection deficiencies, inquires, and investigations.
- Responsible for accounting for all guardsperson-training workdays (i.e. Annual Training, Special Training, Active Duty Special Work, Proficiency Training.)
- Utilizes centralized personnel databases, which includes working and tracking commander's programs, personnel data control, force management, training requirements, awards and decorations.
- Interacts with active duty personnel to insure that ANG Bands remain current with State Funeral Plan mission; This includes attending annual funeral plan update meeting where musical literature, uniforms and logistics regarding this mission are discussed.
- Plans and organizes customer support function to ensure: (1) unit newsletter is published and distributed; (2) proper handling of external customer inquiries; and (3) initial and recurring training needs for unit personnel are met.
- Accomplishes or assists in accomplishing a variety of military personnel transactions including appointments, enlistments, separations, promotions, duty assignments, transfers, officer and enlisted evaluations, security clearances, retirements, applications for school, payroll actions, and other personnel and pay actions, and forwards same to a higher level military personnel or finance office

- This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.

AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of considerations for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code § 709), will be in the following manner and sequence,
- The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians in the Peoria Air National Guard at Wayne A. Downing International Airport.
- The SECOND area of consideration will be all members of the Illinois Air National Guard.
- The THIRD area of consideration will be all those eligible for membership in the Illinois Air National Guard.
Military Grades: Enlisted Only
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Administrative or clerical experience, education, or training which demonstrates the candidate's ability to perform the duties of the position. Experience using computer and automation systems.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-08 Level - Must have at least 18 months experience in the interpretation and application of regulations, procedures or laws. Experience that provided a thorough knowledge of administrative functions. Experience utilizing research tools. Experience providing guidance and setting priorities.
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the lower grade level in the Federal service in order to be considered for this position.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

If you are using Education to qualify for this position, Completion of 2 academic years of education in an accredited college or university will satisfy the requirements for GS-4 positions. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience for GS-5 positions.
