Summary

This position is located in the Health Care Services Division, AFRH. The primary purpose of the position is to provide professional medical and technical services to the Residents of the Home and will work under the direct supervision of the Chief, Health Care Services or designee.

Duties


As a/an Advanced Practice Nurse, you will:

  • Performs complete physical examinations, collects and records histories, orders appropriate laboratory studies, x-rays, electrocardiograms and other special procedures required to evaluate medical problems.
  • Makes on-going medical rounds with the medical team, observing and assessing the patients' physical conditions.
  • Performs clinical visits with residents in upper levels of care including long Term Care, Memory Support, Assisted Living with assessing and monitoring acute and chronic conditions through follow-up visits and collaborates with physicians when indicated; Monitors and responds to situations such as: weight changes, medication errors, medications not available, abnormal lab and x-ray tests and any other information as necessary.
  • Prescribes appropriate drug therapy and route of administration and hydration therapy for acute, chronic and seriously ill medical conditions and makes the appropriate adjustments as needed

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement. The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/day/year, and indicate number of hours worked per week on your résumé.

Specialized Experience for the GS-12, you must have one year (full 52 weeks) of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as:

  • Diagnosing, treating, and evaluating non-life threatening acute and chronic illness and disease; AND
  • Obtaining medical histories and conducting physical examinations; AND
  • Ordering, performing, and interpreting basic diagnostic studies; AND
  • Prescribing medications; AND
  • Collaborating with physicians and other health professionals as needed.
AND

Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license OR registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

AND

For Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) positions, applicants must possess a graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position. Areas of specialties for positions include, but are not limited to, Acute Care, Anesthesia, Community Health, Family, Geriatric, Home Health, Midwifery, Neonatal, Oncology, Pediatric, Psychiatric, Allergy and Immunology, Women's Health, Cardiovascular, Dermatology, Occupational Health, Orthopedic, Respiratory, or other specialties identified for the position. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.



SPECIAL NOTE: Long-term care experience and/or interacting with geriatric patients is highly desired.

  • Because the AFRH's mission requires uninterrupted, direct human support and medical care for its Residents, this position is considered essential for continuing AFRH operations. Therefore, the incumbent is expected to arrive for duty on time, as scheduled, and to complete the assigned tour during emergency situations such as hazardous weather.
