Duties
You will serve as an Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic Leader and be responsible for performing maintenance and repair of various air conditioning, heating, ventilation, refrigeration, plumbing and water distribution systems.
Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:
- Performing emergent, urgent, routine and preventative maintenance on a variety of equipment in the heating, refrigeration, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing trades and special-purpose air conditioning & dehumidification systems.
- Installing, maintenance, and repair of: heating, ventilation, air-conditioning (HV AC) equipment and systems, domestic water.
- Articulating and communicating to the team the assignment, project, problem to be solved, actionable events, milestones, and/or program issues under review and deadlines and timeframes for completion.
- Demonstrating proper work methods, explains unusual or highly technical tasks (either orally or in writing), sets the pace and monitors work in progress.
- Ensuring safety protocols, confined space entry protocols, hazardous material identification and reporting (asbestos, lead, etc) are in place and adhered to.
- Monitoring climate controls using the Direct Digital Control (DDC system) to ensure the climate settings and the actual temperature readings for Academy buildings are within established acceptable ranges.

Knowledge of the refrigeration cycle of a variety of commercial and industrial systems to locate and check elements such as those which control low side and high side pressure; the temperature of the cooling units; the temperatures of the liquid and suction lines; and the running time of the various mechanisms.
