Summary

The duty station for this position is located in Kenai, Alaska.

Duties

You will be responsible for providing classroom training including Flight Service Station (FSS) Initial Training Course, Weather Courses, OASIS, and may include Air Traffic Basics. Reviews, updates, directs and participates in the development of course outlines and instructional materials. You will directly provide training. Responsible for updates and maintenance of course material for the FSS Initial Training Courses and Weather Courses. Evaluates capabilities and progress of developmental trainees, reviews training reports and makes final recommendations as to continuation in the training program. Plans and establishes training programs for all levels of personnel assigned to the parent or satellite facility including the training of FSS initial developmental trainees being assigned to facilities outside the parent's responsibility. May provide recurrent training and refresher training at any Flight Service Station as necessary. You will monitor, evaluate and report on the effectiveness of the program. Responsible for planning training activities and ensuring training assignments to be accomplished by developmental specialists are delivered properly and timely. You will prioritize and develop training/instructor schedules and advise trainees on work and administrative matters. Identifies and arranges for developmental training needs of employees, finds ways to improve production or increase quality of work. You will prepare/review documentation for external vocational initiatives for trainees.

  • Must currently hold or have held an AFSS/FSS facility rating.
  • Position is designated as Moderate Risk; a background investigation may be required
  • This position is not subject to mandatory separation at age 56.
  • This position is not covered by Public Law 92-297 for ATC early retirement

Qualifications

To qualify for this position you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to an FV-H/AT-AH (CPC)/FG/GS-12. Specialized experience is experience in an air traffic facility that demonstrates possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the level of work of the advertised position. This experience must have provided a comprehensive knowledge of appropriate air traffic control laws, rules and regulations; experience in conducting classroom training; and experience in creating training modules.

Applicants must be FSS facility rated or previously have held a facility rating in a Flight Service Station (FSS). Applicants must indicate on their application package that they have held or currently have this rating. Applicants may be deemed ineligible if this is not clearly stated in your application package.

The FAA 3330-43 (unrated) is a required form which will be used when making qualifications determination. Please do not include your social security number on this form.

In addition to the minimum qualifications, the following has been determined to be a selective factor for this position. This means possession of this criterion is part of the minimum qualifications and is essential to perform the duties and responsibilities of this position.   • Do you currently hold or have you ever held an Automated Flight Service Station (AFSS) or Flight Service Station (FSS) facility rating issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) while employed with the FAA at a federal AFSS/FSS facility OR possess a Flight Service Station facility rating issued by an FAA-authorized issuer?
