Duties
The United States Space Force (USSF) at Vandenberg Space Force Base (CA) is searching for a Control Tower Watch Supervisor (GS-2152-10).
Description:
The primary purpose of this position is: To provide visual flight rules (VFR) air traffic control services to aircraft operating in the vicinity of an airport or on the controlled movement area of the airfield, providing for the safe, orderly, and expeditious air traffic flow.
Ideal Candidate:
Ideal candidate will have prior experience as a certified active-duty USAF or USAF Civilian Air Traffic Control Tower Watch Supervisor.
Individual must:
1. Provide DD214 copy with Honorable discharge.
2. Provide front and back copies of Federal Aviation Administration Credential card for Air Traffic Control Specialist qualifications and/or Radar Approach Control Pink card copy for all ratings held.
3. Meet medical requirements for Civilian DoD/Federal Air Traffic Control Specialists and obtain and provide a copy of a current FAA Class II Medical Certificate.
Key Skills and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of the laws, rules, regulations and procedures governing the movement of air traffic.
2. Knowledge of Terminal Air Traffic Control (ATC) Procedures, including tower procedures.
3. Knowledge of the functional/operational limitations of all ATC equipment, as well as approach lighting, airfield lighting, weather instructions, navigational aids (NAVAIDS), remote status indicators, arresting systems, landlines, and any other equipment pertaining to ATC services.
4. Knowledge of weather phenomena and localized effects.
5. Ability to make rapid and precise judgments in a real-time work situation, remain calm under conditions that are stressful, coordinate many different processes at once, and adjust rapidly to changes in the traffic pattern and tempo of work activity.
6. Ability to communicate effectively (rapidly, clearly, and distinctly) orally and in writing; to act decisively in emergency situations; and to provide appropriate reporting procedures as required.

- Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
- May be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft in the performance of TDY assignments.
- Random drug testing may be required depending upon the position being filled.
- May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis.
- Required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise.
- May be required to respond to short notice recall to support unscheduled emergency air traffic and/or
contingencies/exercises to support the mission.
- Must complete all training requirements within locally prescribed time limits to obtain and maintain a full facility
rating in facility of assignment.
- The physical requirements of this position.
- The incumbent must have the ability to meet and maintain on a continuing basis, the physical, mental, and
medical standards for ATC duties as specified by the OPM qualification standard for GS-2152.
- The position may require the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions
- The incumbent must accomplish local limited weather observer certification requirements administered by base
weather flight.
- IAW DoDI 3020-42 this position has been locally or command designated as Mission Essential (ME); needed to
ensure the continued operation of mission essential functions of the activity.
- The incumbent of this position may be required to perform additional duties as related to the administrative
management of the Control Tower and Squadron.
- This position meets all requirements as a category 4 designation and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the parent Federal Agency or office to function effectively.
