In order to be eligible for this position you must currently be an Enlisted Member (E7/SMSgt promotable - E8/SMSgt) in the Virginia Air National Guard OR Not Currently in the Virginia Air National Guard but you must be willing and eligible to immediately join the Virginia Air National guard at one of those military ranks.
Duties
As an Aircraft Maintenance Supervisor (Title 32), WS-8801-13, you will perform the following duties:
- Provides significant input for the overall allocation of personnel, funding andequipment resources to the organizational segments supervised to accomplish work operationswhich, because of their scope, volume, complexity, operational tempo, and total force integrationmust be planned on a annual or longer basis. More representative to the actual planningresponsibilities associated with this job would be the day to day work accomplishment and directinvolvement with work operations planning to include daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterlyforecasting. Because of the Total Force Mission integration with the USAF, keeps unit assignedAir National Guard mission aircraft in combat ready status and able to be fully integrated withUSAF aircraft and missions upon activation and regular contingency operations, in addition todaily training and support missions. Integrates work to include: aircraft and aircraft systemmodifications (Time Change Technical Orders), deployment and mobility planning, humanresources and financial forecasting, recurring Air Force mandated inspection requirements,mission and weapons systems changes, contingency planning relating to carrying out the militarymission of the wing, and the implementation of policies and procedures in the accomplishment ofthe work. Analyzes work plans developed by subordinate supervisors and leaders foraccomplishment of assigned work. Determines priority of work to be accomplished in relation tofuture demands, including unanticipated or emergency requirements mandating reallocation ofresources. Provides higher level management and/or leadership information on status of work,budget estimates, required changes in equipment, facilities, techniques etc. for mission planningpurposes. Evaluates potential impact of improved technologies on existing programs andpractices and recommends proposed changes to cognizant authority. Participates, as required,with higher level management and staff organizations in interpreting changing environmentalrequirements to include work techniques, specification changes, standard improvements,modifications to shift structures, equipment modernization, facility requirements and improvedwork flow processes.
- Coordinates and directs the work of units supervised. Assigns and explainswork requirements to subordinate supervisors and sets deadlines. Balances workload forsubordinate work groups. Promotes economical and efficient work operations. Analyzesproduction, cost and personnel utilization records and makes adjustment in operations to correctproblems. Provides inputs to for changes to operating instructions and initiates work plans to befollowed by subordinate workers in accomplishing critical or emergency work projects. Spotchecks work operations to assure production and quality standards are achieved. Coordinateswork operations with other organizations and functions, as well as with primary shiftmanagement and supervision. Encourages employees to achieve management goals.
- Recommends promotion or reassignment of subordinate supervisors andreviews personnel actions prepared by them. Makes formal appraisal of subordinate supervisors'work performance and reviews employee appraisals submitted by them. Determines supervisorytraining needs for all levels of subordinates developing resource options, justifications andmethods to accomplish training. Uses various management tools and computer technologies toensure effective control of work activities. Participates in production meetings to set prioritiesin accomplishing the scheduled maintenance plan. Promotes and administers such programs as costreduction, incentive awards, suggestions and quality assurance. Ensures that regulationsgoverning safety and housekeeping are observed. Assures that subordinate supervisors carry outsuch programs as labor management and equal opportunity. Schedules and approves leave.Ensures that position descriptions are accurate and that position management principles arefollowed. Assures that appropriate production reports and administrative records are maintained.Acts on personnel problems referred by subordinate supervisors. Hears and resolves grievancesand ensures proper corrective action is taken.
- Implements safety regulatory requirements. Ensures that subordinates wear appropriatesafety equipment and follow pertinent safety precautions.
- Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises, and Operations Other Than War (OOTW). May be required to perform such additional duties as structural fire fighting, aircraft fire/crash/rescue duty, security guard, snow removal, munitions loading and handling, heavy equipment operation, maintenance of facilities and equipment or to serve as a team member on boards to cope with natural disasters or civil emergencies.

WHO CAN APPLY:

GROUP II - All qualified Virginia Air National Guard Male/Female Enlisted Member Enlisted Member (E7/SMSgt promotable - E8/SMSgt), regardless of employment status (Traditional, Military Technician or AGR). Military Grades: Enlisted Personnel(E7/SMSgt promotable - E8/SMSgt)
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Applicant must have experience or training which demonstrates that the candidate possesses the knowledge of the various aspects of disassembly, cleaning, lubricating, or assembling of aircraft parts, components, or subassemblies.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicant must have at least 36 months of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the WS-12 level, or equivalent pay band in other pay systems in the Federal government? This experience may also have been obtained in the private sector but must demonstrate that it is comparable to the WS grade indicated. This experience must include activities such as:
- Experience which required the review of work requirements and establishing priorities to meet deadlines.
- Experience that provided knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function.
- Experience which demonstrates the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts.
- Experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations.
