Summary

About the position: This position is located at the Pet Care Center, Yokota AB.

This is an Intermittent (Flexible) position, 0-40 hours per week.

Duties

  1. Receives and shelters animals brought to the pet boarding facility for temporary care. Performs work according to established methods or special instructions and decides required care for dogs and cats.
  2. Observes the animals' appearance and activity for obvious signs of illness. disease, or discontent, and judges their general physical condition. Uses knowledge in determining the animal type and amount of food/liquid needed and determines any special feeding requirements.
  3. Is capable of force feeding and applying medications to animals.
  4. Uses skills in handling and restraining hard to control animals to prevent injury to the animal or self.
  5. Cleans and disinfects feeding utensils, pens/run areas, restroom, and other required tools.
  6. Bathes animals as needed. Continually observes animals and notifies supervisor of any obvious abnormal changes of appearance and activity.
  7. Cleans yard and mow the lawn when needed.
  8. Clean and sanitize drains in runs of animal liter and empties garbage.
  9. Provides routine and personal care according to set schedules and instructions.
  10. Prepares feed in accordance with schedule and instructions. taking care to measure food portions according to feeding instructions.
  11. Requires use of computer when updating customer and pet info, taking reservations. noting animal activities, listing medications, collects fees for services and turns in total daily receipts and reports, etc.
  12. May be required to operate a motor vehicle to transport supplies and animals if necessary
  13. Performs other related duties as assigned.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:
  1. Must have experience and knowledge of proper care of animals to include examining animals for obvious signs of illness, disease, or distress, and administering any prescribed medication is required.
  2. Must be able to handle and care for animals to include feeding, watering, bathing, and cleaning/disinfecting of facility. Requires knowledge of cereal duties suck as filing and counting daily receipts.
  3. Must be able to handle hard to control animals.
  4. Must be able to restrain and lift animals weighing up to 40 pounds without assistance and 75 pounds with assistance.
  5. Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time, and frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and crawl to retrieve animals.
  6. Must satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical.
  7. Must be able to work an uncommon/irregular tour of duty (to include nights, weekends, and holidays).
  8. Must be able to read write and communicate effectively in English. This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use."
  9. Successful completion and favorable adjudication of applicable background investigation (Tier 1 Level) is required.
