These AUSAs are active at both the trial and appellate levels, taking depositions, preparing and responding to discovery, negotiating settlements, engaging in motions practice, trying cases, drafting appellate briefs, and arguing cases before appellate court judges.
The attorney selected for this position will handle a wide variety of civil cases involving, for example: defensive torts (property damage and personal injury, such as medical malpractice); Bivens claims; employment discrimination; land condemnations; foreclosures; defensive environmental claims; affirmative civil enforcement; challenges to agency actions (APA); and bankruptcy.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
Security Requirements: The initial appointment is contingent upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit, and tax checks, as well as drug testing. In addition, continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
Residency Requirements: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which they are appointed or within 25 miles thereof. See 28 U.S.C. 545 for district-specific information.

Conditions of Employment

- Occasional travel: In the District, the state of Oklahoma, and throughout the nation is likely to be necessary. Travel requirements typically entail no more than 1-5 days per month.
Qualifications
Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 3 years post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience.
United States citizenship is required.

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated ability to function effectively with minimal guidance in a highly demanding environment. Successful applicants must demonstrate superior research and writing skills, including identifying issues, developing arguments, and presenting counterarguments. Applicants must be comfortable processing, utilizing, and comprehending large electronically stored discovery records. Successful applicants must demonstrate the ability to make critical decisions that will successfully position the United States for an optimal outcome in litigation. Applicants should demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively and professionally with the court, opposing counsel, and client agencies. Applicants must possess a keen attention to detail and accuracy to present issues, arguments, and evidence with a high degree of professionalism.
Successful candidates should also possess computer literacy skills, including experience in automated research, electronic court filing, electronic e-mail, and word processing systems and software.

How You Will Be Evaluated
You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
Evaluation Method:
Once your complete application package is received, it will be reviewed to ensure you meet all job requirements. An attorney interview panel will then review all qualified applicants and make recommendations for invitation to interview. You will be notified if selected for an interview.
The Occupational Questionnaire will take you approximately 20 minutes to complete.
