Summary

About the Position:
This position is with the Defense Commissary Agency located at the Central Distribution Center Germersheim. Primary function is performance of daily maintenance and repair work of a variety of automotive equipment. Incumbent provides a variety of overhaul and repair work on mobile and fixed equipment currently used by this organization, during a three shift, six day a week operation.

Duties

  • Perform the full range of overhaul and repair work on hydraulic lifts, specialized "reach-in" stock selector trucks, hoisters, engine and gear train lifting eyes and other lifting attachments.
  • Repair, replace components, and make various types of wheeled vehicles operationally ready.
  • Disassemble and rebuild components and assemblies such as engines, transmissions and differentials by fitting and installing needed parts.
  • Install, dismantle and relocate various types of machinery and equipment using technical manuals, shop directives, blueprints and other documents.
  • Determine nature and extent of repairs required, and the materials and parts needed.
  • Replace, rework or refinish worn or damaged parts on machinery such as conveyor systems, air compressors, cable drums and pulleys, and pumps.
  • Make necessary adjustments and conduct operational tests.
  • Ensure vehicles and equipment are maintained in accordance with and in conformance to manufacturers' repair manuals and technical specifications, schematics and engineering drawings, diagnostic codes, computer printouts, and safety manuals.

  • Incumbent is required to perform an uncommon tour of duty to include shift work, evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Frequent lifting, handling and carrying of parts and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds and on occasion heavier items with the assistance of mechanical devices.
  • Work in tiring positions such as crouching, bending, or kneeling, as well as standing for long periods of time.
  • Work is usually performed indoors; however, works on concrete floors and work area is dirty, greasy, and noisy. Occasionally works outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
  • Subject to burns, chemical irritations, shocks, bruises, cuts, scrapes, strains, and exposure to dust, dirt grease gasoline and diesel fuels and various automotive fluids and solvents.

Additional information

  • Direct deposit of pay is required.
  • U.S. citizens overseas under ordinarily resident status are not eligible for appointment under the Status of Forces Agreement.
  • Locality pay does not apply in the overseas area.
  • If an employee brings a child to an overseas location and that child is entitled to attend a DoD school on a space-required basis in accordance with DoDEA Regulation 1342.13, the DoDEA and the Military Department responsible for providing related services will ensure that the child, if eligible for special education, receives a free appropriate public education, including related services pursuant to DoDI 1342.12 and DoDM 1342.12.
  • If an employee brings an infant or toddler (up to 3 years of age) to an overseas location, and that infant or toddler, but for the child's age, is entitled to attend the DoDEA on a space-required basis in accordance with DoDEA Regulation 1342.13, then the Military Department responsible for EIS will provide the infant or toddler with the required EIS in accordance with the eligibility criteria consistent with DoDI 1342.12 and DoDM 1342.12.

Access for civilian employees and their families to military medical and dental treatment facilities is on a space-available and reimbursable basis only.
  • Pay retention may be offered to selected applicants for positions at overseas locations. Pay retention will not be offered as an incentive for employees moving between overseas positions.
  • Selectees may receive certain foreign area benefits such as: Living Quarters Allowance (LQA) or government quarters, home leave, etc. Selectees will have their eligibility for foreign area benefits determined at the time of hire in accordance with Department of State Standardized Regulation (DSSR) and DoDI 1400.25 volume 1250.
