Summary

This position is located in the Golf Maintenance Branch, Golf Division, MWR Department at NAS Patuxent River, MD. This position is to provide total maintenance and repair to a variety of vehicles, specialized machines and equipment used in golf course maintenance.

Duties

  • Troubleshoots and repairs and services automotive engines which power farm type tractors and light trucks. Overhauls and rebuilds engines, major assemblies, and all components. Repairs vehicle components as required such as brakes, engine accessories, fuel pumps, or electrical systems. Replaces clutches, gears, bearings, valves, and other components. Reconditions carburetors and generators and replaces mufflers, seals and shock absorbers. Tunes and adjusts engines and components. May be required to perform repairs on other tools and equipment used at the golf course.
  • Performs maintenance on a variety of self-propelled, towed, or push-type equipment associate with turf management, such as Cushman trucksters, various specialized power mowers and aerators, or gang mowers, spreaders, slicers, sprigger, spikes, spray tanks, the course sprinkler system, and other allied machinery. Overhauls hydraulic lift mechanisms and gear boxes of tractor drawn gang mowers, removing and inspecting valves and gears, and adjust for correct operation. Overhauls two or four stroke engines, dissembles and replaces parts and rings, lubricates and replaces belts and chains. Sharpens and balances rotary blades. Indoctrinates all using personnel on the safety of equipment operation.
  • Does specialized troubleshooting, testing and required repairs of hydraulic pumps, hydraulic tractor motors, and hydraulic reel motors. Service and repairs several hydrostatic transmissions..
  • Uses electric and gas type welding equipment to cut metal, weld cracks, plates, etc. Uses and maintains steam cleaners. Uses machine drill, pnuematic bumper jacks, stand, hudralic hoist, battery testers and chargers, tap and die sets, timing light and oscilloscope, conpression gauge, and variety of hand tools. Performs seasonal maintenance on equipment during winter months.
  • Keeps updated on technical aspects of current equipment on the market and its versatility.
  • Maintains inventory of parts that are considered high wear items.
  • Performs minor repairs and maintenance on golf course buildings and shelters. Assists in reparing irrigataion pumps and elecctric motors.

Qualifications

Previous experience with motorized equipment is required. Must have a record of proven capability to proficiently maintain and repair motor drven equipment. Must be capable of directing the work of others. Must be able to read and understand repair manuals, diagrams and illustrations. Must have a valid state driver's license.
