Duties
1. Provides support to the patrons of the facility in the form of instruction and technical assistance in the minor repair and maintenance of their motor vehicles that can be accomplished by cleaning, reinstalling, or replacing parts in cooling systems; braking systems; starting/charging systems; electrical systems; drive-trains; and suspension systems. Performs appropriate trouble shooting and explains proper process for correcting problems. Provides guidance in, and demonstrates, proper technique of locating worn, dirty, or poorly adjusted parts through visual check or use of a variety of test equipment, such as timing lights, feeler gauge, circuit testers, electronic engine analyzers, etc. Uses a variety of basic automotive tools such as wrenches, pliers, brake tools, ignition tools, etc. Utilizes publications and other resources to assure that work conforms to specifications.
2. Performs limited services on patrons' motor vehicles such as: tire mounting and balancing; oil changes; minor exhaust welding; radiator/cooling system flush; and engine analysis.
3. Complies with HAZMAT policies and procedures.
4. Assures that patrons observe fire, safety, and environmental regulations and policies. Issues parts and tools and makes sure that they are accounted for, cleaned, and in good repair. Keeps work center in orderly condition. Assigns stall and work space. Uses cash register, collects fees and makes change. Enforces housekeeping and safety rules. Performs clean up duties as required.
5.Requires GOV license to perform road test and make cash deposits.
6. Performs other duties as assigned.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifying Experience:
Skills in using basic automotive tools. Skill in operating equipment common to the trade. Skill in operating a small variety of test equipment. Knowledge of techniques for removing, replacing, cleaning and installing parts, components, and accessories. Ability to determine when parts should be cleaned and reinstalled or replaced. Must be able to read and interpret parts manuals and manufacturers' repair manuals. Ability to frequently lift, handle and carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds, and occasionally, with assistance, objects weighing up to and over 50 pounds. Ability to frequently stand, bend, stoop, crawl, and work in tight spaces for long periods of time. Must possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License and an Allied
Forces in Italy (AFI) motor vehicle license to operate vehicles.
Condition(s) of Employment: Satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical.Successful completion and favorable adjudication of applicable background investigation (Tier 1 Level/NACI) is required.
Physical Effort: Requires frequent standing, bending, stooping, crawling, and working under vehicles and working in tight spaces. Frequently lifts, handles, and carries parts and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds; occasionally up to or over 50 pounds.
Working Conditions: Work is usually performed inside on concrete surfaces where there is exposure to drafts, noise, and fumes from vehicles. Occasionally performs work outside under adverse weather conditions. Constantly exposed to dirt, dust, and grease, and to the potential for burns, chemical irritations, shocks, bruises, cuts, strains, and slipping. Requires caution in working with moving parts during operation of equipment.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution in order to qualify.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
