Duties

  • Identifies improperly functioning parts for repair or replacement using on-board computer diagnostic systems and other test equipment.
  • Determine whether parts should be cleaned or replaced.
  • Install, adjust and set automotive systems in accordance with manufacturer's specifications and tests the completed product.
  • Decides on the methods and techniques to use.

  • Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
  • Stands and works in uncomfortable positions for extended periods. Frequently lift, handle, and carry parts and equipment weighing up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds).
  • Occasionally, move moderately heavy items with assistance or with mechanical devices, including objects weighing up to or over 23 kilograms (50 pounds).
  • Work areas are dirty, oily and greasy.
  • Constantly exposed to cuts, bruises and vehicle fluids which may cause burns or irritate the skin.
  • Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with AR 215-3, chapter 2.
  • Incumbent may also be required to complete a Tier 1 background investigation for a Common Access Card for physical access to federally-controlled facilities.
  • Physical examination may be required.

Qualifications

Candidates must:
1. Be able to lift and carry weights up to 40 pounds (occasionally, move object over 50 pounds with assistance or with mechanical devices).
2. Possess a. valid motor vehicle operators permit.
3. Have work experience performing the identified duties.
4. Be able to work independently.
5. Knowledge of the various techniques for removing, replacing, cleaning and installing parts and components.
6. Skill to make adjustments and settings and in the operation of tools and equipment used.
7. Understanding of diagnostic and test equipment; the make-up and operation of systems and their interrelationship.

PCS Costs
  • Payment Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs are not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government's interest.
FWS Allowances and Differentials
  • This is a federal wage schedule (FWS) position.
  • All FWS employees are entitled to overtime work for work in excess of 8 hours in a day or in excess of 40 hours in the administrative workweek, whichever provides the greater benefit to the employee.
  • Regular full-time, regular part-time (to include those in a limited tenure appointment category) and regularly scheduled flexible employees are entitled to Sunday premium pay when working Sunday shifts. A FWS employee will be paid a night shift differential of 7.5% for the entire shift when a majority of the employee's regularly scheduled non-overtime hours of work occur between the hours of 1500 and 2400. A FWS employee will be paid a night shift differential of 10% of the scheduled rate if a majority of the employee's regularly scheduled non-overtime hours of work occur between the hours of 2300-0800.

Incentives and Bonuses
  • Incentives may be paid.
  • Recruitment incentive up to 25% may be authorized.
Non-Foreign Overseas Allowances
  • Non-foreign overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA), and differentials will not be paid, contingent upon eligibility.
