NONAPPROPRIATED FUND POSITION DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE:        Bowling Center Manager
BUSINESS TITLE:    Bowling Program Manager
FLSA: Exempt

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent is responsible for the supervision and managerial control of six (6) geographically dispersed bowling facilities and Bulldogs/Shisa Pizza located within the Camp Foster Bowling Center and reports to the F&H Director.  Provides administrative and technical guidance to associate bowling management personnel and Bulldogs/Shisa Pizza management personnel (Camp Foster ONLY).  Develops, plans, and administers overall program plans and procedures, program requirements, maintenance conditions and related bowling activities.  Formulates comprehensive operating and capital budgets to support on-going programs and capital improvements.  Oversees the development and consolidation of budget proposals submitted by bowling facility managers.  Evaluates bowling program management, operating costs, and maintenance requirements; prepares statistical data; develops information that includes current expenditures and estimates of future costs based on the specific social and recreational programs to be maintained, modified, or curtailed; and develops substantive justifications to support program modifications and related budget proposals.  

Supervises and coordinates the day-to-day activities of six full-time facility managers, a league coordinator, Bulldogs/Shisa Pizza managers (Camp Foster ONLY), and a technical maintenance foreman.  Anticipates and fills staff vacancies; interviews and selects key personnel; approves and disapproves leave requests; counsels employees; evaluates employee job performance; and resolves minor grievances.  Recommends training and/or cross-training for junior employees whenever possible.  

Ensures development and implementation of an effective maintenance program for two complex and dissimilar bowling pinspotter systems, two dissimilar lane surfaces, and several bowling facilities of widely varying age and condition.  Oversees the phase-in and/or major rehabilitation of bowling centers.  Provides upper management with recommendations as to the type of equipment to purchase, setting and bowling center layout, furniture selection and ancillary services offered.  Initiates studies and surveys to determine program efficiency.  

Advises employees of available safety regulations, instructions, materials and equipment.  Promptly reports workplace accidents to the Human Resources Office.  Ensures safety training is provided to employees.  Complies with OSHA standards and takes action to correct unsafe or unhealthy working conditions.  Ensures employees understand safety infractions that can result in disciplinary actions, and follows through with appropriate action.  Ensures minimal loss of duty by complying with ¿Return To Work¿ program initiatives, and following up on employee well being.

This is a mixed position where the incumbent must be able to lift and carry objects up to 45lbs independently and objects over 45lbs with assistance.

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

  1. A minimum of four years experience that demonstrates administrative knowledge of and application of bowling, bowling equipment and facilities, or other recreational sports that incorporate professional league rules.
  2. Extensive experience managing bowling program operations that include food concepts is highly desired.  
  3. Comprehensive knowledge of Marine Corps and DoD component Bowling Facility management regulations and administrative procedures related to management of same.
  4. Knowledge of commonly accepted business practices as they pertain to program planning, budget formulation, and efficient resource utilization.
  5. Knowledge of bowling center equipment as it pertains to assessing life cycles, determining quality, and establishing cyclical maintenance schedules.
  6. Knowledge of ABC rules for league formation and tournament play.
  7. Knowledge of retail operations as it pertains to overseeing the administration and management of several bowling pro-shops.
  8. Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
