Duties
Serves as the NATA Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) at the Marine Corps Base, Twentynine Palms for all fitness, sports, recreation, and leisure programs and provides expertise, guidance, and services to participants and staff as recognized by the National Athletic Trainer's Association Board of Certification (NATABOC), the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), and the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). Provides evaluation, guidance, instruction, service, and supervision on injury prevention, performance durability, performance / biomechanical efficiency, recognition and assistance in the diagnosis of injuries, and the treatment, therapy and rehabilitation of injuries for Marines, Sailors, dependents, families, and authorized patrons aboard the installation. Assists with the HITT Program and other fitness programs as needed. Performs work under the oversight of the assigned physician who oversees and approves the care rendered in accordance with the established Memorandum of Agreement (MOA).
Plans, supervises, and administers sports and fitness programs. Conducts, organizes, or coordinates clinics and seminars to train coaches, officials, parents, and participants. Trains and develops athletes; plans, organizes and conducts leagues, tournaments and competitions at all levels. Responsible for establishing and meeting program goals and effectively managing the resources of assigned programs. Monitors assigned programs on a regular basis and initiates corrective action as necessary. Evaluates the effectiveness of ongoing programs from the standpoint of resources, unforeseen developments, and program objectives. Develops periodic program plans and annual requirements. Arranges for necessary supplies, transportation, space, and services to accomplish program goals scheduled sports activities.
Plans, organizes work, and manages internal procedures and resources to ensure maximum productivity. Prepares office financial plans and related reports, and exercises authority on approved budget. Manages new property resources and may provide direction on facility renovations and improvements. Develops long range plans in conjunction with internal operating directives and exercises internal personnel management authorities as delegated by the higher-level supervisor with regard to subordinate supervisors and employees in the office. Directly or indirectly through subordinate supervisors supervises employees. Counsels and trains employees, schedules and directs work, and appraises work performance. Approves or disapproves leave, and personnel actions. Must be alert to substance abuse and take appropriate action. Works in coordinated fashion with the Health Promotions Coordinator. Effectively supports the Marine Corps Equal Employment Opportunity and Sexual Harassment policies, and ensures compliance with fire, safety, and other environmental issues and programs. Maintains and enforces security of funds, merchandise, supplies and equipment to preclude or minimize the potential for fraud, waste and abuse. May travel with teams, units, and staff to competitions, training facilities, and work areas to perform work as assigned. May work a fluctuating work schedule to complete work assignments outside of the typical work week and work hours.
Provides evaluation and treatment of acute and chronic injuries to include concussion management and treatment. Provides appropriate follow-up evaluations and maintains documentation, records and reports of all treatment provided in accordance with the MOA. Performs administrative duties to include documenting and maintaining statistical records of clinical assessments, treatments, workload, and participation in education programs, coaching, and conducting research. Duties are covered under the general liability insurance for MCCS. Additional individual liability insurance must be covered by the incumbent. Memberships and certifications are the responsibility of the incumbent.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Current certifications in the following: (ATC) from the National Athletic Trainer's Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) with eligibility for state licensure. NSCA - CSCS certification is preferred. CPR for the professional rescuer, AED and Basic First Aid required. Three years of ATC experience at the high school, or college, or professional sports level required. Bachelor's Degree from a college or university in an accredited athletic training program. A college degree from an accredited college-/university in related field may be submitted for two years of experience. High school or higher coaching experience preferred. High School or higher athletic playing experience preferred. Skill in the use of personal computers, desktop publishing, and associated software required. Ability to handle numerous projects at one time. Ability to deal effectively with subordinates, officials, and others. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing. This is a mixed position and the incumbent must be able to lift up to 45 lbs. Must be able to demonstrate proper exercise technique. This position may require physically demanding labor as well as office based or administrative work. Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time. Must be able to squat, hinge, rotate, lunge, push, pull, and maintain an active plank position.
