Summary

THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION

This National Guard position is for a COMPUTER ASSISTANT (Title 5), Position Description Number T5341000 and is part of the AR ARNG AASF, National Guard.

This position may be eligible for recruiting, relocation, and retention (3R) pay subject to review and state approval each year. Acceptance of 3R incentive pay may result in a minimal service obligation of 1-3 years depending on the type of 3R incentive received.

Duties

1. Creates local modifications to the STAMIS (ACN) system. Modifications within and among systems are created to provide for the communication of data between testing platforms and the STAMIS system. Results are used to ensure the timely and accurate exchange of maintenance, supply and operational data between individual aircraft laptop computers and the Local Area Network (LAN). Works with multiple operating systems with guidelines that are not always specific or may not exist. Monitors the transfer of data between aircraft laptops and LAN computers to ensure data integrity is maintained. Monitors data back-up systems.
2. Ensures data and data files are accurately entered into a system through the Local Area Network (LAN). Monitors database files from outside sources (e.g., inspection master files, component master files and reportable item files) to ensure data integrity and applicability. Restores deleted data files as necessary. Utilizes Standing Operating Procedures (SOP's) in the event of an ACN failure.
3. Troubleshoots common or recurring problems experienced by laptop users. Creates database inquiries to access local information stored in ACN. Assists AASF users in preparing locally designed reports. Creates, edits and saves database queries. Prioritizes work and necessary repair actions to ensure operating systems function correctly.
4. Ensures reports accurately reflect individual aircraft status. Oversees AMSS processes for daily recording and reporting of aircraft/subsystem readiness and end-of-period reports. Maintains and updates unit parameters and aircraft/weapon systems authorization files to ensure calculated readiness rates are available.
5. Serves as the Terminal Area Security Officer (TASO) with security oversight over AASF ACN system components. Manages ACN network security protection mechanisms. Assigns, secures, stores, and maintains user IDs, passwords and controls individual and group access to the ACN system. Provides advice and recommendations for using and safeguarding ACN data and resources against unauthorized disclosure, modification, access, use, destruction or denial of service. Trains or works with personnel on ACN changes and procedures. Prepares presentations, utilizing computer programs, as required.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Information Assurance Certification is a condition of employment. Per DoD 8570.01-M, the incumbent must achieve the appropriate IA certification within six months of assignment of these duties.
Must be able to obtain/maintain appropriate security clearance
The incumbent of this position description must have at a minimum, a completed National Agency Check (NAC) prior to position assignment.
Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.
This position is designated as Essential Personnel and may be subject to duty in preparation for, or in response to, a state emergency or disaster declaration. This designation will not exceed 14 calendar days per year unless otherwise approved in advance by the TAG.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
Experience, training, or education which demonstrates the applicant's ability to follow directions, procedures, or systematic work methods which gives evidence of the candidate's ability to perform this work. Experience using computer and automation systems.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Applicants who have the 1 year of appropriate specialized experience, as indicated in the table, are not required by this standard to have general experience, education above the high school level, or any additional specialized experience to meet the minimum qualification requirements.

-- Knowledge of job priorities, rules and scheduling procedures in order to align and adjust schedules in accordance with functional program priorities when work schedules are re-aligned.
-- Skill and knowledge to independently apply DoD, Army, NGB, and local policies, standards, and directives to perform analysis, to evaluate the automated information systems requirements, and offer assistance and guidance to those who receive informational products.
-- Knowledge of a wide range of current automated information systems, data automation, and information technology concepts, methods, techniques, and procedures. This includes Army, NGB, and commercial off-the-shelf systems technology.
-- Knowledge of AASF missions, objectives, terminology, and management practices in the facility, NGB, and the DA to recognize probable areas of interaction and overlap between proposed and existing system requirements.
