Duties

  • Serves as a Construction Control Representative at a construction site responsible for the execution, control, and surveillance of contract operations of assigned construction projects.
  • Reviews plans, specifications, shop drawings, and requests for changes to determine site compatibility; applicability of terrain and soils; feasibility of structures; and to anticipate problems.
  • Conducts inspection of work in progress to insure compliance with plans, specifications, procedures, use of materials, contract provisions and schedules, and shop drawings.
  • Identifies actual or potential problems and determines necessity for changes or remedial action.
  • Investigates need for contract change orders, controversies which could lead to formal claims by the contractor, deviations requiring engineering determinations and other matters.
  • Recommends changes in construction to meet field conditions.
  • Tabulates the results of inspections and prepares site visit reports that are used to keep Project Engineer informed of progress with project construction.
  • Reviews contractor's receipt of material and equipment procured by contractor's purchase orders.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • May be required to serve one year probationary period.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Within 1 year of appointment, the incumbent must complete the USACE Dive Safety Admin course, and maintain Dive Safety Inspector (DSI) credentials

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience interpreting plans and specifications to ensure that contractor's work is performed in accordance with accepted construction practices and good workmanship; Communicating with contractor representatives for mutual understanding and agreement as to interpretation of contract requirements; ensuring strict adherence to all applicable safety provisions to the contract including special regulations; and/or experience conducting inspection of work in progress to insure compliance with plans. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-10).
