Duties
Performs a full range of simple cooking tasks by preparing and cooking items that require little or no processing such as pancakes, sausage, eggs, hamburgers and fresh or canned vegetables. Performs duties which include, but are not limited to preparing breakfast, lunch, snacks, and special event meals to include: eggs, French toast, pancake, oatmeal, cereals, stir fry, fried rice, beans, sandwiches, salads, pizza, lasagna, quesadillas, beef franks, chicken breasts, and other meats. Roasts, broils, bakes, boils, grills, steams and stew meat, fish and poultry. Prepares, soups, broths, gravies, sauces and puddings without the use of pre-packaged mixes. Adjusts standardized recipes for number of servings, performs yield testing; mixes and prepares sauces, glazes, salad dressings, cakes and pies, and carves vegetables and fruits.
Prepares hot cereals, broiled meats; prepares and cooks concentrated or dehydrated soups, sauces, and gravies; makes cold sandwich fillings. Prepares meals which require coordinating the cooking of items with different cooking times. Plans the cooking process to produce complete meals on time and at the proper temperature. All meals and snacks must be healthy and age and size appropriate and must comply with United States Department of Agriculture Child and Adult Food Program and Air Force standards. Meals and snacks must be pre-approved by supervisor and from base Nutritional Medicine. Minor modifications may be made to add flavor and more appealing, with supervisor's coordination. Ensure meals and snacks are served in a sanitary pleasant way to meet children's nutritional needs and promote good foods habits. Ensures Children's allergies and food preferences are always considered and posted in the kitchen in a way that protects children's identity.
Uses automated ordering system through prime vendor to order. Upon receipt, verifies wholesomeness, age at time of delivery, packaging integrity, source approval, and sanitary condition of delivery vehicles.
Prepares food by peeling, chopping, grinding, paring, cutting, slicing, dicing, pureeing, dredging, flouring or breading; weighs, measures and assembles ingredients for regular menu items; sets up and replenishes salad bar; portions foods for distribution and meal service, and covers, dates and stores leftovers according to established procedures. Washes and cleans kitchen equipment. Responsible for kitchen sanitation and cleanliness of equipment (floors, cabinets, walls, food storage areas, refrigerators and freezers, laundry). Follows risk management procedures to reduce vulnerabilities to preventing food-borne illnesses.
Performs other related duties as assigned. Conducts frequent and thorough inventories and inspections of any areas used for food service and for food storage.

Qualifying Experience:
Must have experience in and knowledge of methods and procedures relating to food preparation and presentation gained in a grill,
snack bar, restaurant, club or similar food activity. Ability to follow oral and written instructions, work safely, and do simple
arithmetic. Knowledge of operating and cleaning food service equipment, characteristics of various foods, and the ability to season
food and decide when foods are done is required.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
