Duties
Independently performs the full range of the below listed duties and responsibilities under the written and verbal direction of the supervisor who provides guidance on the scope of assignments and assistance on the more complex, non-routine problems encountered. Performs routine work that is spot checked and reviewed based on results achieved and adherence to established standards and procedures. Performs more complex, technical assignments that are more closely reviewed for adherence to policies, procedures and instructions.
Serves as a Child, Youth or Teen Program (CYTP) Leader for child & youth program staff and oversees smooth operation of one or more programs in accordance with established policies and applicable regulations. Develops schedules and activity plans. Oversees arrival and departure of children and youth. Supervises and monitors children and youth, and prescribed staff-to-child ratios during indoor and outdoor activities, and on field trips, outings and special events.
Establishes a program setting that promotes positive interactions between children, youth, teens and adults. Plans, coordinates and conducts activities for program participants based on observed needs. Prepares and implements options for children and youth with special needs and requirements. Works with Trainers, Supervisors and Program Assistants to implement activities and special events that meet physical, social, emotional and cognitive needs of children and youth. Works with coworkers to prepare, arrange and maintain activities, events and materials to accommodate daily schedules.
Provides guidance and assistance on specific tasks and job techniques. Provides written instructions, reference materials and supplies when necessary. Explains program guidance, procedures, policies and directives. Obtains related information to resolve problems and conflicts. Demonstrates appropriate work methods to lower graded employees. Models appropriate behaviors and techniques for interacting with children and youth. Provides on the job training and instruction to employees. Ensures team members observe and follow proper procedures related to safety, fire, fitness, health and nutrition policies and practices.
Relays instructions from supervisor. Gets work started. Sets work pace. Ensures worksite materials and tools are available to complete work. Reports workplace injuries immediately to the immediate or higher level supervisor, and to the Human Resources office in the absence of the immediate supervisor. Checks with supervisor on problems. Checks on work and meets productivity goals. Performs supervisory duties in an emergency, or short-term and nonrecurring basis. Provides input to the supervisor regarding promotions, reassignments, performance reviews and incentive awards.
Assists in implementing and leading planned activities for program participants. Incorporates special instructions provided by parents pertaining to dietary needs, physical needs, or other information that may affect the child, youth or teen's experience in the program. Cares for special needs children, youth and teens as directed by the supervisor. Sets up displays and bulletin boards.
Supervises children, youth and teens during daily schedule of indoor and outdoor activities, on field trips, outings and special events. Promotes and models safety, fitness, and health and nutrition practices. Notifies supervisor of health, fire, and safety compliance concerns. Helps arrange for/serves appropriate snacks/meals when applicable. Ensures children, youth and teens (as applicable) depart with authorized persons according to written parental instructions. Observes program participants for signs that may indicate illness, abuse, and neglect, and reports as directed. Participates in program evaluation as required.
Assists in achieving and maintaining DoD certification and national accreditation or equivalent. Provides care/supervision, oversight, and accountability for children, youth and teens in compliance with local policies, guidance and standards.
Completes all training requirements, including orientation, monthly, annual and the approved Marine Corps Standardized Module Training as prescribed, and tracks and records completed training on own Individual Development Plan (IDP). Participates in program evaluation using designated instruments to include: program rating scales, risk assessments tools, self-inspection materials and national accreditation tools.
Inventories equipment on a recurring basis and recommends replenishing damaged, missing, and depleted supplies. Secures supplies, equipment, and facilities. Collects, maintains and reports program participation data.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
