Carpenter Needed at Batavia VA Medical Center

Job Overview

Join our team at the Batavia VA Medical Center as a Carpenter, where you will play a crucial role in maintaining and repairing various structural components and surfaces, ranging from woodwork to drywall and laminate. Reporting to the Maintenance and Operations Supervisor, your expert craftsmanship will ensure the facility remains safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Measure, cut, construct, and repair wood or wood substitutes.
  • Plan and execute projects involving framework, trim, doors, staircases, and more.
  • Perform wall repair and preparation, including drywall repair and finishing.
  • Maintain records of repairs, work orders, and materials used.
  • Install and repair cabinets, ceilings, railings, and other fixtures.
  • Measure and lay out carpentry projects from blueprints or instructions.
  • Operate hand and power tools, preventing material damage.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on equipment like wheelchairs and lawn furniture.
  • Provide minor plumbing repairs in the absence of a plumber.
  • Participate in any additional duties as assigned.

Schedule

Full-time, Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Background and suitability investigations are required.
  • Participation in drug testing may be necessary.
  • A probationary period may apply.
  • Registration with Selective Service is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Mandatory flu vaccination as part of VA Health Care Personnel requirements.

Qualifications

While formal training is not required, you must demonstrate experience and capability in carpentry duties. Your resume should provide detailed evidence of your skills, complemented by potential volunteer work or other unpaid experiences.

Physical Requirements

The role requires standing, stooping, bending, and working in sometimes uncomfortable positions. You may need to lift materials up to 50 pounds and work from ladders or scaffolds. Personal protective equipment is needed in some tasks.
