Certified Pharmacy Technician

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Certified Pharmacy Technician to join our team at the Phoenix VA Healthcare System. This full-time position is vital in supporting the safe and effective use of medications for our Veterans. As a pharmacy technician, you will be responsible for a wide range of duties including medication dispensing, inventory management, and sterile compounding. This role requires independent judgment and proficiency in handling both non-sterile and hazardous drugs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret, fill, and prepare prescriptions for pharmacist verification.
  • Maintain clean and orderly work areas to ensure optimal work conditions.
  • Ensure appropriate storage and security of medications according to guidelines.
  • Utilize automation dispensing equipment and report any malfunctions.
  • Conduct monthly inspections to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Compound and reconstitute medications when necessary.

Work Schedule

This is a full-time position with no telework option.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical examination and background/security investigation.
  • Participation in influenza and COVID-19 vaccination programs is mandatory for healthcare personnel.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with at least 3 months of pharmacy-related experience.
  • National certification by PTCB or ExCPT is required.
  • One year of experience equivalent to the GS-6 grade level is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Federal and state laws related to pharmacy.
  • Ability to resolve pharmacy/medication issues and train pharmacy technicians.
