Summary

About the position: This position is located at the Child Care Facilities at Wright-Patterson AFB to administer, implement, monitor inclusion supports and behavior support processes in classrooms/programs by using the DOD CYP Inclusion Guide.

May require incumbent to transport children in a government vehicle. Valid state driver's license must be obtained/maintained; a good driving record may be required as a condition of employment.

Duties

Assists in the development and implementation of Inclusion or Behavior Support Plans (ISP/BSP). Assists direct care professionals in recognizing and responding appropriately to children and youth displaying concerning or unsafe behaviors. Collaborates with the Training and Curriculum Specialist (TCS) to train and coach CYP professionals to implement, monitor, and maintain ISPs/BSPs, which are implemented through continued observation and the correct use and application of support strategies and/or required accommodations. Coaches CYP professionals to observe the child's/youth's development and individual needs, communicate effectively with families, and enhance their classroom/activity area environment and curriculum to promote inclusion and meet diverse learning needs. Develops and maintains a resource library to include a variety of learning materials, activities, parent support materials, and related publications pertinent to serving children and youth in inclusive environments and/or with developmental delays, disabilities, or behavior support needs.

Leads and conducts inclusive program and classroom assessments at regular and periodic intervals.

Serves as a core member of the installation Inclusion Action Team (IAT)/Multidisciplinary Inclusion Action Team (M-IAT) and monitors compliance with Service policy, DoD instructions, and federal law.

Participates in parent conferences/meetings as needed.

This position spends at least 50 percent of their time in classroom/activity area settings, promoting, modeling, coaching, and mentoring CYP Professionals to promote implementation of inclusive practices.

Conducts non-clinical assessments using Service-approved assessments to support the development of ISPs/BSPs as well as Service-identified screening and observation tools.

Supports the identification of needs and classroom supports for children and youth through observations conducted by CYP professionals.

Works collaboratively and maintains a network with military and communityagencies, provides information and referral, and may serve on local early education councils or advisory groups alongside DoD Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) family support and School Liaisons.

Drives government vehicles.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:
A bachelor's degree or higher that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours in special education, early childhood education, child/adolescent development, elementary or secondary education, youth development, or other closely related field such as psychology/sociology or social work (must include 24 semester hours in child/adolescent psychology, sociology of the family, developmental psychology, social work with child/family emphasis);

OR

Completion of 24 semester hours in coursework as indicated above, plus additional related coursework or experience that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a 4-year course of study.
In addition to meeting one of the requirements above, candidates must possess the following:
Professional experience of child development, early intervention, special education, early childhood inclusion, and evidence-based and trauma- informed practices that support inclusive environments related to birth to 18-year-olds.
Professional experience in the observation and assessment methods and implementation science. Experience with individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and The Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as they apply to CDC's, school age centers and community-based support services. Experience which demonstrates skill in respectful, reciprocal communication with families; adapts responsive approaches as required to meet the needs of individual families. Experience which demonstrates skills in the practice-based coaching model, facilitating training with adult learners, providing feedback, and adjusting training pace and activities to meet diverse learning needs. Experience which demonstrates skills in conducting functional behavioral assessments and collaborating with a team to design, implement, and monitor resulting BSP.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does allow for education substitution in order to qualify.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.

Additional information

  • Child Development Program will provide 100% child care fee discount for all CYP direct care staff for the first child enrolled in a full-time or regular part-time DAF CDP. A 25% discount will apply for any additional children of direct care staff. Direct care staff must spend a minimum of 75% of their work schedule in the classroom and flex employees who average 15 hours a week. Please contact local NAF HR Office for additional information.
