Duties
The Colo-rectal/Critical Care Surgeon will be a member of a specialty care team consisting of CRNAs, RNSAs, Anesthesiologists, Chief of Surgery, O.R. personnel, staff supporting Inpatient/ Outpatient environment and wide range of various other professionals and support staff throughout the medical center and community-based outpatient centers (CBOC's). Direct patient care will include veteran patients and interaction with family members or those identified as guardians or significant others.
The surgeon will provide direct surgical care to inpatient and outpatients; assist in the clinical education of surgical residents and students; pursue research opportunities (if available or desired); and participate in administrative assignments, such as committee membership.
Practice elements will include:
- A full range of adult general surgery
- Colo-rectal surgery including endoscopy and surgical critical care
- Inpatient management, outpatient clinic care, and telemedicine
- Conduct postoperative follow-up
The Cincinnati VA Medical Center has a comprehensive general surgery team trained to remove gallbladders, appendixes, and colonoscopies. Our team also specializes in colorectal cancer, concurrent surgeries with orthopedics, urology and vascular surgery, and the support of critically ill surgery patients.
The facility has developed a multidisciplinary team committed to the use of advance techniques for the salvage of extremities threatened by Diabetic Foot Disease.
WORK SCHEDULE: In general, Monday through Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm but acute patient care may require additional time outside of these hours. Participation in call coverage to advise and supervise residents is expected. An on-call response time of 15 minutes by phone and 60 minutes in person is expected of Staff Surgeons at VAMC Cincinnati. This includes nights, weekends, and holiday hours.
