To qualify at the GS-11 grade level, applicants must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

Specialized experience must include the following:
- Collecting initial information to classify search and rescue (SAR) cases and begin case documentation
- Providing tracking and other sensor information to support missions
- Providing course and speed information to response assets to coordinate arrivals at a particular point
- Writing final situation reports about search and rescue (SAR) cases
OR
Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
OR
3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree
OR
LL.M., if related
