Summary

The Laboratory Maintenance Branch provides the nation's premier federal aviation laboratory for advancing the United States National Airspace System (NAS) and sustaining its continued safe and efficient operations.

Duties

For FV-H duties:

The incumbent applies experience and detailed knowledge of computer science theories, methods and techniques for applying sound software development, software testing, software integration, software maintenance and data analysis to support the Laboratory Maintenance Branch mission. The incumbent is responsible for developing software and tools. The incumbent will develop and implement software using analytical techniques to resolve issues and to identify problems relating to the projects. Understands how the technical area interacts with or is affected by other disciplines and considers the objectives of the major subdivision and LOB/SO when developing, integrating, and implementing solutions to diverse, complex problems.

Directly supports laboratory maintenance/technical/software tasks as necessary. Maintains quality assurance; ensure customer satisfaction, and the viability and sustainability of the NAS systems. Interface, confer, and collaborate with peers, management, and laboratory users/customers accordingly. They will respond to customer requests and trouble tickets and adhere to laboratory schedule as required by user/tester community. They will support system users, vendors, and contractors as required /requested. Provide testing and debugging of NAS systems, prepare reports, and first level maintenance support of existing and future NAS systems.

Performs analyses and calculations using computer science methods and techniques, including the analysis of technical proposals and designs by contractors and others. Coordinates project activities with other agencies, contractors, utility companies, state and local government authorities.


For FV-I duties:

To include the H-band duties as well as:

Performs multiple, varying, and complex assignments under the limited direction of a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced technical specialist. May act as a contributing specialist on large work activities or as a team leader for single or small work activities.

Participates in meetings with senior leads that discuss relevant lab agendas and projects. Acts as a contributing specialist on large work activities or as a team leader for single or small work activities. Applies experience and advanced technical knowledge applicable to computer science to accomplish assignments and develop plans and techniques to improve programs and policies.

Applies experience and detailed technical knowledge applicable to his/her discipline to plan and accomplish assignments. Typical assignments may include limited system development; collecting, recording and analyzing data/information; identifying problems; performing investigation and inspection activities; and initiating compliance and enforcement actions. Demonstrates some independence in planning time and using assigned resources to accomplish assignments and small projects.

Basic Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.

To qualify for this position at the FV-H level you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-G, FG/GS 5-9. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.

Specialized Experience is: Experience performing analysis, trouble shooting, system maintenance of hardware and/or software associated with National Airspace System Air Traffic Control systems.

OR

To qualify for this position at the FV-I level you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-H, FG/GS 10-12. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.

Specialized Experience is: Experience with defining, planning, and organizing data analysis, complex trouble shooting, repair and configurations of hardware and/or software associated with National Airspace System Air Traffic Control systems.
