Summary

The Congressional Budget Office is a small nonpartisan agency that provides economic and budgetary analysis to the Congress. The Information Resource Management and Technology Services Unit seeks a self-motivated Computer Systems Engineer with a strong work ethic to oversee CBO's IT (information technology) systems. The successful candidate will report to the Chief Information Officer as part of a 13-person IT shop.

Duties

The Computer Systems Engineer administers and supports CBO's enterprise IT infrastructure, including AWS cloud services, Windows Server, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Entra ID (Azure Active Directory), and related technologies. Responsibilities include maintaining and optimizing enterprise systems, performing system administration, patching, testing, troubleshooting, conducting backup and recovery activities, resolving complex technical issues, and otherwise supporting the agency's IT infrastructure and operational needs.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Candidates must have experience with and a good working knowledge of the following:

  • AWS cloud infrastructure, including experience designing, deploying, and managing cloud environments;
  • Windows Server administration;
  • Microsoft 365 administration;
  • Microsoft Entra ID (Azure Active Directory);
  • Active Directory;
  • PowerShell;
  • Unix/Linux systems; and
  • Enterprise networking technologies, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, switching, and VPN technologies).

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with one or more of the following is desirable:
  • Hyper-V or comparable enterprise virtualization platforms;
  • Microsoft SQL server;
  • Python or other scripting languages;
  • Enterprise backup and disaster recovery platforms, such as Commvault Metallic or equivalent technologies; and
  • AI (artificial intelligence) tools and large language model platforms to improve IT operations and productivity.

Candidates must have, or be able to obtain, a favorably adjudicated Public Trust (Tier 2) Investigation, which includes a credit check.

Education

Candidates should have a bachelor's degree in business information systems (preferred), IT, computer science, or a related field and at least five to seven years of experience in an IT environment that includes both cloud and server infrastructure. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.

This position is not eligible for a remote or a full time telework work schedule.
