Duties

You will serve as a Construction Control Inspector and be responsible for providing oversight and inspection on a wide range of construction projects at the USCGA..

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

  • Inspecting in progress, or upon completion, contractor operations, methods, techniques and materials to ensure conformance with plans and specifications.
  • Assuring compliance by contractor with safe working conditions, practices, and labor laws.
  • Participating in the development of construction project scopes of work from user requirements.
  • Interpreting and clarifying construction plans and specifications exercising considerable independent judgement in distinguishing between compliance non-compliance workmanship, materials, equipment, and safety requirements.
  • Recommending change orders and modifications to contract due to unforeseen site conditions, incorporating material and cost estimates.
  • Preparing and writing detailed reports on deficiencies found during inspections.

Qualifications

Specialized experience must include the following:

  • Engineering aid or technician or surveying technician performing work directly related to construction.
  • Construction inspector or construction representative responsible for interpreting plans and specifications, inspecting materials and workmanship, and insuring adherence to safety requirements.
  • Supervisor of craftsperson's, equipment operators, or mechanics engaged in construction work, provided that the experience involved responsibility for interpreting plans and specifications and inspecting workmanship for adherence to such plans and specifications.
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

OR

EDUCATION:

Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology; or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as those shown above for GS-3.


AND

To qualify at the GS-09 grade level, applicants must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-08 grade level in the federal sector. Student Loan

Selectee(s) for this position who are newly appointed to a permanent or term position may be eligible for student loan repayment up to $10,000 (pre-tax) for one calendar year.
