Summary

About the Position: This position is located Fort Gordon, Georgia at Eisenhower Army Medical Center. Incumbent will provide support to the food production and service functions in the Nutritional Medicine operation in a bedded Medical Treatment Facility (MTF).

Duties

  • Prepare meals to execute a full range of cooking in accordance with standardized recipes.
  • Weigh and measure food items to monitor cooking time and determine quantities of ingredients for required yields.
  • Prepare vegetables, starches, breads, desserts, and meats using a variety of cooking methods including grilling and deep-fat frying.
  • Operate, maintain, and clean tools, equipment, dishes, and department work areas to assist with storeroom functions.
  • Open and close dining room entrances to facilitate daily meal service.
  • Sweep, mop, and wax floors to maintain facility cleanliness.
  • Set up assigned stations on the patient tray line to prepare for regular and therapeutic diets.
  • Take nourishment inventories to replace expired bulk items.
  • Perform cashier-related duties to support dining facility operations.

  • This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • Lifting 45 pounds and above may be required.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position is required to work uncommon tours of duty hours such as, on-call, working either fixed or rotating shifts, evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
  • Position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
  • This position is subject to TDY or business travel requirements to various locations. This may require travel via privately owned vehicles, commercial transport platforms, and/or military aircraft, ships, and vehicles.
  • This position is required to be screened for and obtain necessary immunizations/vaccinations (hepatitis, influenza, etc.), unless exempted by a licensed physician.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Cook without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common food preparation duties. I can perform simplified tasks for the preparation and cooking/reheating of fresh, frozen, and canned fruits and vegetables, cereals, eggs, soups, meat and meat products, gravies, sauces, fish, poultry, and potatoes or starch substitutes. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • PHYSICAL EFFORTS: Requires continual standing and walking; frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending. Frequently lifts or moves objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted and occasionally lifts or moves objects weighing over 40 pounds with the assistance of lifting devices or other workers.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is performed in kitchen areas where the steam and heat from cooking and dishwashing equipment often cause uncomfortably high temperatures and humidity. The work area is well lighted, but usually noisy from food service activities and there is a danger of slipping on floors where food or beverages have been dropped. There is regular exposure to hot liquids, sharp cutting blades, hot working surfaces, and extreme temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigerators or freezing units. Must abide by personal hygiene standards and safe work procedures such as wearing a hairnet or hat and a clean uniform daily.
