Duties
- Performs a full range of simple cooking by preparing and cooking items that require little or no processing, such as pancakes, sausage, eggs, hamburgers, and fresh or canned vegetables.
- Prepares food by peeling, chopping, grinding, paring, cutting, slicing, dicing, pureeing, dredging, flouring, or breading.
- Operates a variety of kitchen equipment using gas, electricity, steam or microwave heat sources.
- Disassembles, cleans and assembles component parts and accessories, following safety procedures to avoid personal injury and damage to the equipment.
- Cleans other work areas and equipment, such as worktables, floors, walk-in refrigerators, etc., on an established cleaning schedule.
- Higher-grade cook is available to answer technical questions and to ensure that the work is being done properly.

- Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
- A one year probationary period may be required.
- Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
- Must be physically able to lift and carry items weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Must be physically able to occasionally lift objects weighing over 40 pounds with assistance of others.
- Must be physically able to stand, walk, stoop, reach, and bend for prolonged periods of time.
- Satisfactory completion of a minimum of 4 hours initial food sanitation and safety training is required within 30 days of employment and a minimum of 4 hours refresher training annually.
- Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with Army Regulation 215-3.
- This position requires a favorably adjudicated T1/NACI background investigation.
- An employer referred pre-employment physical examination is required.
- Must be willing to accept intermittent, on-call employment.
- Management reserves the right to reassign employees to other facilities.
- Work schedule will be irregular. The incumbent will be required to work, nights, weekends, holidays and/or special events.
Qualifications
Qualified candidates will possess the following:
- work experience preparing foods and cooking simple foods to include short orders in a cafeteria, restaurant, or mess., AND
- ability to follow written and verbal instructions, particularly standard recipes, and detailed cooking instructions., AND
- ability to operate, disassemble, and clean basic food service equipment such as griddles, broilers, and food grinders., AND
- ability to perform basic arithmetic (e.g., add, subtract, multiply etc...) to measure ingredients in a recipe.
