Summary

Duties

  • Performs a full range of simple cooking by preparing and cooking items that require little or no processing.
  • Prepares food, mixes ingredients according to recipes, and stores leftovers according to established procedures.
  • Weighs, measures, and assembles ingredients for regular and modified menu items, and mixes ingredients according to precisely written recipes.
  • Operates a variety of kitchen equipment using gas, electricity, steam or microwave heat sources.
  • Cleans, stores, and maintains all equipment and work areas after each use. Follows established sanitation procedures when handling food.

  • Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
  • Possesses satisfactory completion of pre-employment background checks in accordance with AR 215-3, 2-13, to include a Tier 1 background investigation.
  • Successfully complete a health screening. Immunizations required as a condition of employment for the health and safety of those in the facility.
  • Satisfactory completion of a minimum of 4 hours initial food sanitation and safety training is required within 30 days of employment and a minimum of 4 hours refresher training annually.
  • Must be able to move objects up to 40 pounds unassisted.
  • Must be able to occasionally move items weighing over 40 pounds with the assistance of other workers or lifting devices.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED WORK EXPERIENCE IN PREPARING FOODS AND COOKING SIMPLE FOODS AND SHORT ORDERS IN A CAFETERIA, RESTAURANT, OR MESS.
Demonstration of the following work behavior:
  1. Neatness and good grooming.
  2. Dependability.
  3. Ability to work under pressure.
  • Basic knowledge of food preparation methods and procedures.
  • Skill to cook a limited variety of prepared foods or short order foods.
  • Ability to read and understand written food service material, such as food labels, standardized recipes, and basic work instructions.
  • Skill in performing basic mathematical computations to multiply ingredients in a recipe or to determine how many servings a container will hold.
  • Knowledge of the various tables of weights and measures and ability to follow instructions to convert from standard to metric measurements.
  • Skill in operating, disassembling and cleaning basic food service equipment such as griddles, broilers, and food grinders.
  • Knowledge of basic sanitation, infection and spoilage control procedures.

FWS Allowances and Differentials
  • This is a federal wage schedule (FWS) position.
  • All FWS employees are entitled to overtime work for work in excess of 8 hours in a day or in excess of 40 hours in the administrative workweek, whichever provides the greater benefit to the employee.
PCS Costs
  • Payment Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government's interest.

  • Incentives will not be paid.
