GS-13: To qualify at the GS 13 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at the GS 12 grade level as a lead or supervisor monitoring, reviewing or evaluating regional or national federal detention/transport programs, such a coordinating educational, social service, health care, and rehabilitative activities; assist with the development of policy, standards and procedures for corrections/detention and/or rehabilitation programs; and provide recommendations to senior level officials to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of operations for a corrections/detention programs and/or other contracted or rehabilitation programs and taking effective measures on resolving issues.
MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS: The duties of this position require moderate to arduous physical exertion involving walking and standing, and exposure to inclement weather. Manual dexterity with comparatively free motion of finger, wrist, elbow, shoulder, hip, and knee joints is required. Arms, hands, legs, and feet must be sufficiently intact and functioning in order that applicants may perform the duties satisfactorily. Sufficiently good vision in each eye, with or without correction, is required to perform duties satisfactorily. Near vision, corrective lenses permitted, must be sufficient to read printed material the size of typewritten characters. Hearing loss, as measured by an audiometer, must not exceed 35 decibels at 1000, 2000, and 3000 Hz levels. Since the duties of these positions are exacting and responsible, and involve activities under trying conditions, applicants must possess emotional and mental stability. Any physical condition that would cause the applicant to be a hazard to himself/herself, or others is disqualifying.
SECONDARY RETIREMENT COVERAGE: To be eligible for secondary coverage, an employee must satisfy ALL three requirements: - (1) while covered under the retirement provisions moves directly (without a break in service exceeding 3 days) from a primary/rigorous position to a secondary position; - (2) Completes 3 years of service in a primary/rigorous position, including any such service during which no FERS deductions were withheld; AND - (3) Must be continuously employed in a secondary position or positions since moving from a rigorous position. Except a break in employment in secondary positions that begins with an involuntary separation (not for cause). If you are not eligible for special retirement coverage, you will be placed in the regular retirement system.
TRAINING AND CERTIFICATIONS: The position requires incumbent to have completed a basic correctional course from an approved detention or correctional training program. Incumbent will maintain an annual 40-hour training program in oversight and management of a detention center.
