This announcement may be used to fill additional positions if identical vacancies occur within 90 days of the issue date of the referral certificate.
Career-Seasonal: These are appointments that are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. When operational needs and/or funds are not available, the employee will be placed in non-pay status. Placement in non-pay status will not be on a sporadic, occasional, or unplanned basis.
Selectees are guaranteed to work at least 6 months per year but not more than 50 weeks per year, with the work schedule to be determined upon appointment.
You will work approximately 22 pay periods, and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year.
Non-pay status is anticipated to be between Nov 1 and Mar 31.
Physical Demands: Exerts heavy physical effort in doing such tasks as frequently lifting and moving objects weighing 30 to 50 and occasionally items up to 70 pounds with assistance of other workers or weight handling equipment, running power mowers, pushing heavy wheelbarrow loads, and/or operating power tools. Extensive walking, bending, and lifting are required by this position. Use of hands, arms, legs, and feet required for manipulation of tools and controls in performance of duties.
Working Conditions: Incumbent is required to work inside and outside in all kinds of weather conditions in a congested, high-elevation mountainous environment. May be exposed to dusty, drafty, and noisy conditions as well as fumes. Incumbent is exposed to the possibility of cuts, bruises, and broken bones. The incumbent uses PPE such as safety gloves, glasses, earmuffs, and other personal protective equipment to avoid injuries. Incumbent is required to work various shifts including early, late, weekends and holidays. Motor vehicles are driven in all types of traffic and weather on public roads use of a seat belt is required.
Telework: The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are not suitable for telework.
Probationary Period: This probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service. In determining if your employment advances the public interest, the agency will consider:
- your performance and conduct;
- the needs and interests of the agency;
- whether your continued employment would advance organizational goals of the agency or the Government; and
- whether your continued employment would advance the efficiency of the Federal service.
Under applicable law, the employment of an individual serving a probationary period automatically terminates when that period ends unless the agency affirmatively certifies, in writing, that the individual's employment should continue and that their appointment should be finalized. In the absence of agency action to affirmatively certify continued employment beyond the probationary or trial period, such appointments are terminated. Upon completion of your probationary period your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest.
