Duties

The United States Space Force (USSF) Headquarters (HQ) Combat Forces Command (CFC) Operations, Plans, and Force Generation (S3579) Space Control Operations Division (S3C) at Peterson Space Force Base, Colorado is searching for a Cyberspace Warfare Weapon System Lead (NH-0343-03, GS 12/13 equivalent).

Description:
We are seeking a Cyberspace Warfare Weapon System Lead (Principal Cyber Warfare SME) to direct full-lifecycle defensive and offensive cyberspace operations (DCO/DCO-S and OCO/OCW) and sustainment support across U.S. Space Force (USSF) mission systems, space vehicles, ground infrastructure, and Special Access Program (SAP) environments. In this senior technical leadership role, the candidate will drive advanced cyber architecture development, manage the integration of analytic and defensive tools into legacy systems, oversee Capability-Based Assessments (CBAs), and maintain end-to-end program performance across technical, schedule, and budget baselines to safeguard critical space capabilities and deny adversary exploitation. Serving as the primary technical advisor across joint, inter-agency, coalition, and industry mission partners-including USSPACECOM, USCYBERCOM, STARCOM, CFC, AFRL, and FFRDCs-the lead will leverage Special Operations Forces (SOF) tradecraft, cyber intelligence, and space threat analytics to shape operational planning, Joint/USSF cyberspace doctrine, and decision-quality executive briefings for senior leadership.

The ideal candidate is an accomplished Cyberspace Warfare Subject Matter Expert (SME) with extensive operational experience directing full-lifecycle defensive and offensive cyber operations (DCO/OCO) across space systems, tactical networks, and Special Access Program (SAP) environments. You bring proven technical leadership in space vehicle cybersecurity, advanced architecture integration, and capability-based requirements development, combined with the seasoned ability to translate complex cyber threat intelligence into decision-quality strategic assessments and executive doctrine for senior leaders. Operating seamlessly across Joint, Inter-agency, and Special Operations Forces (SOF) stakeholders-including CFC, USSPACECOM, and USCYBERCOM-you are a proactive problem-solver and mission commander capable of defending critical space control capabilities, executing rigorous program baselines, and maintaining an active TS/SCI clearance with SAP eligibility to safeguard high-consequence national security space assets.

Key Skills and Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of a wide range of qualitative and/or quantitative methods for the assessment and improvement of command level plans and programs for conducting major operations such as Space Situational Awareness & Command and Control; Space Protection; Space Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance; Missile Warning/Defense; MILSATCOM; Space Position, Navigation & Timing; Space Testing, Training, Tactics & Exercises; Space Launch, Ranges & AF Satellite Control Network Operations; Cyber Defense; Cyber Counter-Threat; Cyber Integration; Cyber Warfare and associated mission and flight operations, tactical space lift, deployment, mobilization, exercise, training systems, foreign military sales, Planning, Programming, & Budgeting System (PPBE), acquisition, special operations, or similar operations.
  2. Knowledge of military (including command level) program goals and objectives; the sequence and timing of key operational events and milestones; methods of evaluating the effectiveness of planning actions related to actual events; and the relationship of the various command entities involved in overall program planning and execution of military operations and evaluations.
  3. Knowledge of the application of military space/cyberspace operations expertise as they apply to programs and weapons systems.
  4. Skill in designing and conducting comprehensive studies and preparing solutions to especially broad, important, and severe military operational and contingency areas.
  5. Ability to plan and organize studies or projects and to negotiate effectively with management to accept and implement recommendations, where proposals involve substantial resources, and require extensive changes in established concepts and procedures.
  6. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; negotiate complex issues; and maintain good working relationships.
  7. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance with eligibility for access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI).

  • Required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise.
  • This position has been designated for drug testing. Incumbent is subject to random urinalysis testing as a condition of employment.
  • May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis.
  • May be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft in the performance of TDY assignments.
  • Space, cyber, and/or intelligence operations experience is highly desirable.
  • Eligible for situational telework only, including Emergency and OPM prescribed “Unscheduled Telework”.
  • Employee must within 30-days of assuming this position and by 31 October annually thereafter, file an OGE-450, "Confidential Financial Disclosure Report."
  • PCS will be paid IAW JTR and AF Regulations. If receiving an authorized PCS, you may be subject to completing/signing a CONUS agreement. More information on PCS requirements, may be found at: https://afciviliancareers.com/regulatory/.
  • Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period.
  • Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest.
  • Subject to Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY): Approximately 15 days per year.
  • Incentive is not authorized.
