Duties

Continued from Summary: The incumbent is authorized to make technical and executive decisions for the 375th OG Commander in all areas of functional responsibility; represents the group and the commander at meetings, conferences, official functions, and community events; and, when acting as the senior group official in the absence of the commander, possesses the same authority and prerogatives as the commander, excluding UCMJ authority which is vested in military officers only. Exercises second level supervisory and managerial authorities.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • As full deputy to the 375th OG Commander, directs plans, organizes, and manages the day-to-day mission execution of the 375th AMW's Operations Group.
  • Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. With the 375th OG Commander participates fully and directs, coordinates, and oversees the work or more than 525 OG personnel spread across four installations in four states through subordinate supervisors.
  • As the 375th Operations Group senior civilian and operational subject matter expert, acts as sole process owner and source of continuity for all aviation-related installation support activities.
  • Leads and/or participates in special projects and initiatives and performs special assignments to include making periodic, comprehensive assessments and evaluation of program goals/objectives which provide a basis for long-range planning to enhance the organization's management support capabilities.
  • Represents the 375th AMW Commander and 375th Operations Group Commander in strategic planning with a variety of installation and functional area organizations.

  • This is a Supervisory Position. A 1-year supervisory probationary period is required if applicant selected has not previously met this requirement.
  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
  • Incumbent is subject to the normal pressures, deadlines and other conditions inherent in high- level leadership positions.
  • Position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain a security clearance based on position security access requirements, at least at the Top Secret level.
  • In order to meet special or unscheduled activities, may be required to work at uncommon hours with brief advance notice.
  • This position has been identified as a designated position under the Air Force Drug Testing Plan. Incumbent of this position is subject to the possibility of a random drug test.
  • Requires frequent presence on an operational Air Force flight line. Incumbent must be able or be capable of meeting requirements for unescorted flight line access and certification to operate a motor vehicle on the flight line.

  • Graduated military squadron commander is highly desirable.
  • This is a Centrally Managed Position in the Operations career field.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Group Coverage Qualification Standard for Administrative and Management Positions.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-13, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience include: knowledge of and skill in the application of rated aviator expertise, as either a pilot or navigator; knowledge of flying operations, command center communications, intelligence procedures, aeromedical evacuation, and current operations which includes worldwide deployment of aircraft and personnel in the planning and execution of military operations; knowledge of the capabilities, limitations, and techniques for employment of unit-assigned aircraft; knowledge of safety and security regulations, and risk management practices and procedures.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-­grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-13 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-14 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
  1. Knowledge of and skill in the application of rated aviator expertise, as either a pilot or navigator.
  2. Knowledge of flying operations, command center communications, intelligence procedures, aeromedical evacuation, and current operations which includes worldwide deployment of aircraft and personnel in the planning and execution of military operations
  3. Knowledge of the capabilities, limitations, and techniques for employment of unit-assigned aircraft.
  4. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, and risk management practices and procedures.
  5. Ability to analyze, plan, coordinate, and adjust work operations of multiple organizational segments to meet program requirements and objectives within available resources.
  6. Ability to plan. organize, and direct flight operations functions and mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization through subordinate supervisors. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social).
