This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Shortage Category and/or Critical Need Positions to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: Conducts criminal investigations on Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington.

Duties

  • As a team leader, coordinates investigative efforts of personnel assigned to the particular case.
  • Conduct long term investigations of complex, sensitive, and controversial violations (actual or potential) of criminal law, and the UCMJ, involving persons and property.
  • Safeguard the Evidence Ledger to provide accountability.
  • Seize and processes evidence, contraband weapons, and drugs.
  • Develop data files on suspects concerning their associates, habits, characteristics, aliases and other personal data and uses same in the investigative process.
  • Assumes custody of evidence and marks it for future identification to ensure accountability, preservation and the safeguarding of evidence throughout judicial proceedings and disposition of all evidence by the depository.
  • Coordinates evidence for permanent disposal or for temporary release to include transmittal to crime laboratory for forensic examination, transfer to other commands and for presentation at a court martial or hearing.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance.
  • This position requires the incumbent to successfully complete CPR certification and First Aid training.
  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.
  • Incumbent must pass the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center Mixed Basic Police training program, other state or locally accredited police officer training program, or military services certified academy.
  • May require working scheduled and unscheduled overtime.
  • This position is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program.
  • Shift work is required, or a change in work shift may be necessary.
  • Overtime may be required as directed and is subject to recall for periods of emergency overtime.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a valid stateside motor vehicle operator's license.
  • This position requires the incumbent to be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons and successfully complete qualification and recertification semi-annually and thereafter of Firearms Testing.
  • This position requires the incumbent to be certified in the use of police equipment, cameras, crime scene evidence collecting equipment, and automated police information retrieval systems.
  • This position requires the incumbent to pass an entry level physical and annual re-certification of standard Army Physical fitness/agility test in accordance with Army Regulation 190-56
  • This position requires the incumbent to successfully complete USAMPS Military Police Investigations course.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes; conducting investigations to detect, apprehend individuals committing acts of violence, theft of property, violating laws concerning controlled substances; monitoring/maintaining the receipt, issue, storage, and disposition of evidence; analyze facts to identify suspects and develop case information for use in pressing charges and bringing suspects to trial; knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service(GS-08).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
